Company's hypocricy regarding smoking and pesticides

I'm not sure if anyone has followed this story in the news, but Company,

the people who make Miracle Gro and other pesticides/fertilizers containing

2,4-D, etc, recently told their employees they'd be fired if they didn't quit

smoking.

While I think it's great to stop all the terrible cigarette smoking, I thought

it was ironic that this would come from a company that is poisoning their

employees, and customers, and the world, with pesticides. So I wrote a few

letters and this is what I heard back. I responded, but feel free to put in

your two cents as well. Maybe we can encourage them that if they're so

concerned with health insurance costs, maybe they should switch to making

natural products that won't poison their employees even more than smoking

probably does...

She, and the management, needs to hear why their products INDEED cause health

problems, that the EPA means nothing, and that the below information is

completely innacurate. Write away!

The active ingredients in s Turf Builder with Plus 2 Weed Control are 2,4-D

and MCPP and are

degraded in soil by micro organisms to carbon dioxide and water. The inert

ingredients are carriers

and/or surfactants and have no control or fertilizer benefits. The soil

half-life for 2,4-D is 10 - 12 days and

for MCPP 21 days, with more than 90 % of both products gone in less than 3

months. Microbes are not

harmed by these products. Microbial growth is stimulated with repeated

applications of the herbicide

which then increases the rate of herbicide degradation. Turf Builder with Plus

2 Weed Control is

absorbed into the plant through the foliage (leaves of the plant). 2,4-D and

MCPP are phenoxys, which

are growth regulators.

health and reduce health care costs. The smoking policy is only one component

of a significant
