Hello all, I am hoping someone can help me. My 1 year old has a really bad

rash on his tushie..nothing I have is seeming to help so I thought maybe

something homemade might...I have used Neosporin, Avveno, Desitin..these all

just seem to burn his bottom.

Any help for a recipe or anything you can suggest would be wonderful

Do you have cornstarch? Just put that on his bottom like a powder....it will

soak up excess moisture. Tomorrow if at all possible, let him go without a

diaper for a bit in the sun - does wonders.

He could be experiencing a yeast infection. It is often mistaken for diaper

rash, but standard diaper rash medications have no effect. Try slathering the

area with unflavored yogurt (be sure it contains active cultures). Don't use

cornstarch based powders as the yeast " feeds " off the starch. Arrowroot or

wheat flour powders are recommended. Also, keep him off fruit juices until he

clears up, it causes the urine to become excessively acidic, which will irritate

his delicate skin further.

Try juicing a leaf of aloe vera and spreading the jell on his bottom. Also

unrefined shea butter works wonders. I've used this combination on my 6 month

old granddaughter since her birth with wonderful results. FYI the prepackaged

aloe doesn't seem to work...it has to be fresh

Just let that wee one do what ever he needs to do while he heals. IMHO

anyone who'd complain about a few " mishaps " right now shouldn't have the joy

that will come with your little love when he's not feeling so awful and is

much more convenient to live with. An old farm wife I knew year's ago swore

by a product called " Pink Salve " that you can still get in a really good,

old fashioned drug store. Looks like one of us could have made it - small

white jar, black top, simple gold lable. I turned a friend of mine on to it

for his grandson a few years ago and his family was amazed.

Dear Mom,

Still try to let it air out as much as possible. Is it draining anything?

If so what color? Make sure you rinse his bottom well. Sometimes it's

better to just soak their lil butt in water as rubbing will just irritate it

further. The diaper will keep heat, moisture in and create more infection or

yeast to grow.

(worked a lot with diapers and infections on bottom) with young and old. As

a nurse. It can get very troublesome. If it is starting to get worse you

may need to take him to Pedi doc. to get some Rx to get it cleared up.

Hi ,

These are the ingredients in order, of the cream I used on my daughter when she

had terrible " burnt " rashes when she was around the same age:

Bees wax, Olive oil, Propolis, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, essential oils

(unspecified). It used to clear up the rash in one or two applications. I am

sorry I don't have a precise recipe, this isn't one I made myself. It is firm

like a lipbalm sort of texture, so I'd guess 2:1 wax to oil for starters.

Hope this helps,

God bless,

Donna B. (N.Z.)

Hi there...As an old nurse, I always gave my 4 children Cranberry Juice when

they had a diaper rash. It breaks down the ammonia in the urine and stops

the urine from burning the bottom.

Hi,

You may also want to think about changing the brand of diapers

you are using.

I know some children can't use Huggies brand because of the " gel "

stuff they use to soak up fluids. For some, it it really irritating,

my younger one was one of them.

If you are using cloth, putting them through an extra rinse cycle

may also help.

Hi ,

My children have had the same problem. What I have found that works best is

let them soak in the tub with bath salts and/or bath bombs. They love them

and in a few days their rash was gone. I also use an ointment made with

chamomile and calendula. Hope this helps.

This is not a recipe but it is tried and true. For a non-yeast rash I soak a

cloth diaper liner in Domboro solution and put it in the diaper. This stuff

is really good for acid type rashes and rashes that may be bleeding. You can

get the Domboro over the counter at the drugstore. I use it on my daughter's

eczema too and have very good luck with it.

Just a hint from a mother of two. I always wash my nappies , do an extra

last rinse in vinegar( 2T). My boy piddles and oops heaps too. In NZ we

have zinc and castor oil cream, which does wonders. Hope this helps.

Oops!! I should have written 2:1 oil to wax, not the other way round!! Too late

at night that was!

And when i looked at my recipes, one of them it 4:1 oil to wax, if you want a

softer balm. Keep it in the fridge to keep it fresh in the heat, by the way!

=)
