Kathy, I recently went on the net and typed in natural flea powder recipe

for dogs and up came a plethera of topics on flea prevention through

nutrition, holistic treatments and enough recipes for doggie treats to keep

you busy for years. I am going to make some of those for Christmas gifts

for some of my favorite canines, especially my son's beagle who loves to

sing duets with me. She is a riot. anyway, a natural flea powder recipe

is as follows:

2 oz. dried pennyroyal

1 oz. dried wormwood

1 oz. rosemary

large dash cayenne

(I have also seen eucalyptus and citronella included in natural flea

remedies as well as lavender).

So, you buy herbs in powder form or pulverize them yourself into powder and

mix well. Keep in closed container and use when necessary. You can also

add chamomile. That's it. I personally would leave out the cayenne and

put in a little lavender and some chamomile. I would be afraid the dog

would get the pepper in his eyes and that would be a disaster. I have also

seen these herbs mixed with baking soda first and then gently rubbed into

the fur, get it down to the skin. If the dog gets dry skin from this, you

can aloe vera rubbed into the skin to provided relief.

You are supposed to bath your animals every 2-4 wks. with soap and water

Boil herbs such as eucalyptus or rosemary in water (making like a diluted

tea), place in spray bottle and spray on pet, avoiding eyes of course.

Feeding dogs garlic tablets, vitamin B or brewer's yeast is supposed to

help prevent fleas.

A good dog soap can be made with 4 oz. m & p base, one tablespoon herbal

shampoo, 400 IU of Vitamin E and 1/4 t. liquid glycerine. Melt base, add

the rest of the ingred. Rub the bar of soap on wet dog, rinse well. Carol
