Hi Tina :0)

I'm just typing up my information sheet for jojoba oil, it may be excellent to

use as it absorbs very well and is a very conditioning oil. It also says that

the effects are long lasting. I can send it to you when I'm finished if you

like.

I don't know for sure about preservatives in salve using hemp oil, I haven't

heard of using them, I think if you use an anti oxidant (T-50 mixed tocopherols

is very good and you get the benefits from that too) that it should be all you

need.

I made a lotion bar without beeswax awhile ago and the consistency was much too

soft for a lotion bar so I thought it was a dud, until I started using it and

the consistency was actually great as a body butter. The problem is that I

can't find the darn recipe so that I could give you an idea of the amounts I

used. It could be good because it is thicker than a salve or lotion/cream but

absorbs well.

I think that along with the hemp, jojoba and rosehip seed oil would be great if

you have any. Virgin olive would be good too and I would use unrefined shea as

the butter along with the eo's you mentioned. Some coconut oil or sunflower oil

may be possibilities also if you want something to provide a bit of a barrier.

Something else that may work well is to make up a very thick cream using aloe

vera as the water phase. I've experimented with some lotions using that with

lecithin as the emulsifier that didn't turn out too badly, especially for what

you are using it for. I can look it up if you want to see it.

Just my two cents :0)

Using an anti-oxidant is a good idea. You can add some tocopheral or ROE.

You could also include some of the more stable oils that lend protection to

the less stable oils. The stable oils include jojoba and meadowfoam.

For skin nourishing, moisturizing and repair ... avocado, sunflower,

meadowfoam, olive, and any of the vegetable butters (cocoa, shea, mango).

You might want to try for more of a " body butter " than a salve. Salves

require wax for their consistency, and wax puts a coating over the skin.

Great for things like diaper rash, but not so great when you want your oils

to really get into the skin.

You'll have to experiment with proportions to come up with a consistency you

like, but the efforts can be well worth it. Start with 1 part hard butter

(like cocoa), 2 parts soft butter (like shea or mango), and 3 parts oil.

Test the consistency and adjust from there. I usually add a few drops of

Vitamin E oil too.

You might also want to add some good for the skin essential oils ...

geranium, rosewood, palmarosa, lavender, chamomile, sandalwood, patchouli,

and myrrh would all be good choices.
