Guest guest
I would like to notify the list of our coming conference Treating Autism, to be held in Edinburgh UK 15th of October 2005. I include below the speakers and description of the event and venue. Please share with any other list of parents that could benefit from this event. Best regards Dr. Lorene Amet / Edinburgh Treating Autism Conference and Practitioner Day_* Edinburgh 14th -15th October 2005_**_ Autism, often regarded as a lifelong disabling condition with childhood onset, is now regarded as a disorder amenable to treatment. The Defeat Autism Now! (DAN) movement, originating in the USA over the last decade, has vocally advocated biomedical therapies for autism and autism spectrum disorders. Given the evidence for a rise in prevalence, one is led to suspect an environmental contribution, though whether it is through pollution, infection, diet, or other lifestyle factors is not known. Irrespective of the cause, there is an incentive for full biomedical evaluation of affected children and for treatment implementation. *Action Against Autism *and the newly formed subgroup *ART* (Autism Research Treatment) in association with *Pathway Charitable Trust* and *Ariane (France)* is bringing the medical expertise of Treating Autism, developed in the USA to the UK with a conference at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, 9 Queen Street, on the 15^th of October 2005. The Conference will be preceeded by a workshop for practitioners (14^th October 2005), RCPE. *Key notes speakers* include Jacquelyn McCandless, M.D., Anju Usman M.D. Jim Neubrander, M.D. Professor Boyd Haley, Ph.D., Corinne Skourpka, M.D. Nataf, M.D., Ph.D. *Topics:** **Biomedical testing for children with autism*, *Nutritional strategies for improving health and cognitive function of the autistic child*, *Neuro-toxic effects of and successful treatments for elevated mercury and other heavy metals*, *Methylation pathways in autism; perspective and treatment*. **Jacquelyn McCandless, M.D*.** *author of Children with Starving Brains- A medical treatment guide for autism spectrum disorder. Dr McCandless* *received her Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and is certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. In 1996 her granddaughter was diagnosed with autism. This life-changing event lead to Dr. McCandless working in the field of biomedical aspects of developmentally delayed children. She now utilises the knowledge gained searching for treatments for her grandchild to help others with ASD. **Anju Usman, M.D*.* is the Director of the True Health Medical Centre, Naperville, IL, USA. She is a specialist in treatment of biomedical imbalances in those with ADD and autism and is involved in research documenting the efficacy of nutrient therapy in patients on the autistic spectrum ** Neubrander, M.D*. * Neubrander, M.D. graduated from Loma University in 1975, trained as a pathologist at the University of South Florida, became board certified in Environmental Medicine, and received additional training in diagnosing and treating heavy metal disorders. He began working with children on the autistic spectrum in 1992. Since 1999 his practice consists almost exclusively of children on the autistic spectrum and children with other neuro-developmental delays. He uses numerous biomedical approaches but specializes in the use of subcutaneous injectable methylcobalamin. **Professor Boyd Haley, Ph.D*. *is the Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry, University of Kentucky, USA. He has over 35 years combined research experience in the study of protein biochemistry, heavy metal neurotoxicology and neurodegenerative diseases. Businessman *Bill Welsh* began campaigning for autistic children in 1998, after his grandson, Luke, was diagnosed autistic. He has written many articles on the 'autism enigma', appeared frequently on TV and radio, and has spoken to autism support groups throughout the UK and Ireland. He is the founding chairman of the charity Action Against Autism. *Corinne Skorupka M.D* is President of the French charity Ariane and a DAN! practitioner. She has, over the last few years, treated over 1000 children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder in France. Dr Nataf is at the forefront of testing for heavy metal toxicity in Europe.
