Most folks who read regularly had become acquainted with Bob.

Unfortunately, I just received the following from his daugher. I do not know the

exact circumstances, but if anyone cares to send the family a note, I will

forward it for you.

I am Blue74730's daughter and I got your e-mail addresses from my father's

e-mails.

I just wanted to inform all of you that my father passed away last week. If

you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me. I don't know how close

any of you were to him but I wanted to let everyone know about his death and

thank you for being his friend.

Sincerely,

Tami.

Serena,

Thank you for posting this. It's a stark reminder that what we

interpret from the words on the computer screen may be much different

than the circumstances of what or how the writer is experiencing it.

Carl, I had been in touch with Bob (we think) right up until the day he died.

When we last spoke, he had a doctor's appointment for the next day, was planning

to visit his family, and was enthusiastic about buying a new travel trailer. All

things he had discussed here with us, and he was on his way to do them all.

Up until then, he had been having some trouble understanding what was going

on around him and was reacting very emotionally to all sorts of things. His

writing had gotten a bit disjointed at times, and as it turned out later, some

of what he had written was apparently not quite what he had meant to say. But we

had sorted a lot of it out and he had settled down quite a lot. We even had good

laugh over the whole " PhD " rant. As it turned out, he had gotten somewhat

confused because we had a member and a non-member with the same name. If you

don't refer to one as " Dr. " , you can't tell which is which. When we finally

caught on, it was pretty funny. If I had had any idea he was not in a good place

and improving, I'd have stayed up later and talked more. I know that any of us

would have. I didn't hear from him again. Instead, I am told, he cancelled his

plans suddenly the following day and instead took his own life.

I don't think I quite have my head around this yet. That is, I know what

happened to him. I know this disease kills. I know what the mental and emotional

effects of it are. I know how close some of us have come, and there's no

particular reason why it took him and not me or someone else. I know he was in

touch with others here, and was planning to come back to the group just as he

had done several times before. I just...wish he had said something that last

day, is all.

I have forwarded notes to Bob's family as promised, and I have asked Bob's

daughter if she would like to send along a picture or memorial or something for

the files section here. I have assured her that he won't be forgotten by us and

that we won't stop trying to end this illness.

Serena,

I'm glad you were in touch with him and he had a happy time. I don't

know either why him and not others, or why they give no clue or hint.

In the last 3 years or so I've lost three friends that were also

clients. None gave even the slightest indication except in hindsight,

and then only because you now know what they were really intending.

He and I got off to a rough start but once we got clear - which was

very quickly - we had a good relationship especially off-line. Thank

you for being in contact with his family and for forwarding the

expressions of sympathy.

Carl, I think the thing that's bothering me about this isn't that there were

signs and I missed them, because I didn't miss them. That's why I stayed in

touch. That's probably why several of us stayed in touch. What bothers me is

that he was finally soooo close to getting out of that trailer for good and

getting some real help. He knew he had finally run out of time, and he had made

the decision, only it was too late. Maybe a split second too late, or five

minutes too late, or five days too late - doesn't matter. We see it again and

again, and we warn people and they just don't choose to believe it. They

convince themselves that they can stay just a little longer or handle just a

little more pain, or that it's somehow just a tiny little bit better than not

knowing where they will live next. He was trying, really hard. And we were

trying too, and it still wasn't enough. The illness got to him and lied to him

and he couldn't overcome that and now he's gone. I hate this disease.

I won't dwell on it further. But I'll remember it, that's for sure.

How VERY sad & tragic......if Bob's family is reading this, I'm SOOOO very

sorry. This site offers relief & help to those of us suffering, but

obviously much MORE needs to be done.....when will our " government " ever

listen!?

Take care, all, & God bless,
