Guest guest
Ugg....I hate to hear all these stories. I am a victim of mold almost killing me and ruining me financially. You better get the heck out of there as fast as you can. Insist that they give you another house ASAP. Doctors still don't know much about the effects of mold. Basically, you and your family are being poisoned. It sounds very extensive, and I don't think you need to bother with a test. You can also go to www.mold-help.org. Just move and inspect the new place for any additional problems. At least you don't own the place and won't be stuck with it. Get a note from your doctors if you need help (if they will do that). They vacate schools, court houses, governor's mansions because of mold! That should be enough to convince the housing authority there. Also, I wouldn't think they would want a lawsuit. Guest guest
SnuggleKitty, You really need to get yourself and your child out of there. I know it's not as easy as it sounds. These toxins can affect your health and your childs health for the rest of your lives, if exposure is for any great length of time or at high levels for short periods of time. I looked at your pictures and they leave alot to be desired, obviously you have a very serious water intrusion issue. I don't know what the proper procedures are that you would have to take with the miltary, but you should take action as soon as possible. This isn't the first time I have come across horrendous situations concerning military housing or barracks, they are in deplorable condition. I can't believe our soldiers that protect our country are having to live in these conditions. Knowing first hand (including the military)how it affects the neurological system and the lack of capability of making quick decisive decisions on the battlefield doesn't mix. Our miltary already knows about aflatoxins, why is it different overseas than in their own military homes? I have also received pictures from other military basis and most of them are in the same shape. KC > > Recently I noticed black mold on my baseboard in the bathroom. Guest guest
Don't bother with the allergist- mold toxin is non-allergenic, so it is a useless consept- I lost $2000 to an allergist- total waste of time and money > > Recently I noticed black mold on my baseboard in the bathroom. Guest guest
This is how my exposure started.. exactly... Guest guest
--- In , LiveSimply <quackadillian@g...> Thank you everyone for your replies. Its so hard to fight with the Military about stuff like this so I have to find out everything I can and then confront them . In the pictures of inside the wall could anyone tell if that is mold. The wood was black and slimy and that residue thats in the one pic on my brotherinlaws hand come off the wood. I am so stressed out about this whole thing. I left a msg for my dr cause the only way I can get an air test done for my house is if my dr writes a note. I also started doing a at home mold test last night. This morning I looked at it even though I know its way to early , but it looked like there was a cloudy spot on the inside part of the lid. The test did not have pictures showing what the test would look like if it grew mold so I may have to call the 1800and ask them. Its the one by Pro Lab. Its still to early to get results yet on it since it said atleast 48 hours and I just did it last night. I was also able to access the newspaper article that KC was telling me about. Which was about a military family here where I am that was getting sick from her house, she had to pay for it herself and move offpost. I am hoping I don't have to move off post , I am hoping I can fight and get moved into another home on base . So anyhow any help letting me know if you can see anything in my pictures would greatly help me. Thanks so much! Heres link to the pictures http://pg.photos./ph/snugglekittyyy24/album?.dir=2e8c & .src=ph & store= & prodid= & .done=http%3a//photos./ph//my_photos PS they came and threw all this lime down yesterday, now you can't smell the mold smell in the house as much all you can smell is that horrible lime now. But if the mold is in between the walls the lime wouldn't get rid of that would it? Thanks :)cara wrote: > > This is how my exposure started.. exactly... Guest guest
I am not a dr, and the differences describing our problems are for those smartter than me. Serena wrote a great description about a month ago. a teaching pharmacist I know said allergy testing only shows that you have mounted an immune response to a substance. He did not think that allergy shots helped anyone, that they were medieval torture. My allergy testing showed that I was allergic to 3 different types of mold, I think he tested for 7 types. I told the allergist that I thought I had mycotoxosis, but he said all my problems were do to an allergy- the shots were bad- made me sick- I found this site and stopped them. As far as my understanding, mold toxin turn on inflammation- then we become " allergic " to everything- (universel reponder, or Pan-allergic) as the imflamation subsides, these " allergies " also subside. But strictly speaking , everything I have ever read says mycotoxins are non-allergenic- but toxic- -- In , Loni Rosser <loni326@y...> wrote: > > Why are my antibodies so high on these mycotoxins if we can't develop allergic reactions to them. Guest guest
The symptoms you and your husband are showing are all consistent with chronic high level mold exposure. And, the description you give of your house is exactly what a bad mold problem can look and smell like. Unfortunately, most military bases have housing shortages, so getting another house is unlikely, unless you are transferred to a different base. Also, unfortunately, most base housing directors are not aware of the health and building damage consequences of mold. Fort Meade land is the eastern base of the army's Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine (CHPPM). When my son was in that unit, I had the opportunity to meet some of the professional staff, and found some to be quite knowledgeable in mold health effects, and trying, often futily, to direct the army to improve housing. They did at least succeed in getting Ft. Meade to demolish some of its unsafe housing. I was directed to one of their web pages, http://chppm-www.apgea.army.mil/mold/ This is an excellent place for you to start reading, and show the info you find to your base housing officer. Since it is a military site empasizing health efects, you will have far more liklihood of being taken seriously. Good luck. I live in Military housing and they sent a repairman he was able to push right on through the wall cause it was mushy. I had a major water leak in some pipes that connect the bathroom sink and the kitchen sink. It had a huge hole in it and everytime you used the water it drained out of the hole into the wall. He also said he it had been leaking for a very long time probably 2 years or so and that he could tell it had been fixed before. When I first moved into my house 2 1/2 years ago they had to put jacks under the house to hold up the hallway floor in front of the bathroom cause it was sagging so bad from I am guessing water damage. I have an appt with an allergist to get testing done since my dr thinks i may be allergic to mold. When the came to fix the pipe they did not fix any of the water damage or do anything they replaced the base board and sheetrock but left all that wet icky mess in the walls. Guest guest
Here is a resource oriented to military folks that gives a good overview of what you may be dealing with.. http://www.rand.org/publications/MR/MR1018.5/index.html in particularly, I would look at the last 2/3 of Chapter 4 on toxins, which deals with myco-toxins.. (poisons from fungi) from a biological warfare perspective.. There are some good descriptions there of what the effects of chronic low-level mycotoxin exposure are.. many are similar to what a lot of people here have experienced..
