Happy to result I feel the best I've felt in years and lost 14.5 pounds. More than either of these I learned a lesson, that's the difference between being 'hungry' and being 'not full.' That was a paradigm change in my belief system that wasn't serving me well. I thought I had to be 'full' to be content and when not 'full' I was 'hungry.' Drinking the smoothies and eating fresh salads as described on the Reboot web site I ate plenty and got plenty of nutrition but didn't have the 'full' feeling of the tacos, pizza, steaks, baked potato and butter that I was usually stuffing myself with. I think this change in belief between 'full' and 'not hungry' is going to help me make the changes in my eating for the future. Great lesson to learn. Guest guest
why would you want to put greens in a vitamix first if you have a juicer? It will only heat the greens, less processing of fresh produce is the goal with juicing, so I'd go with just the juicer, if your goal is to remove the pulp. > > > Where is this reboot web site and video? > > Lucille > > -------------------------------------------------- > From: " Ginny " <ginbit@...> > Sent: Saturday, January 14, 2012 10:22 PM > < > > Subject: Re: Fat Sick Nearly Dead Day 10 > > > Congratulations for sticking with it, and the good results, including a > > lesson learned for a lifetime. > > > > Ginny > > > > > >> > > >> > I completed the 10 day 'reboot' from the web site information. Guest guest
Is there a reason to use a juicer instead of the vitamix? Guest guest
Hello ,I think that the video has impacted a LOT of people - many who have never heard of a Vitamix before. Because the movie is in great part about a "juice fast" it is what people are inspired to do. Not necessarily the BEST for ALL people, but it is GREAT for MANY and IMO - whatever it takes to inspire people to make changes towards better health, I'm all for it! Guest guest
I agree but here's one answer I heard from the sproutman at a seminar. Let's say it takes a pound of carrots to get a 8oz glass of carrot juice. You could drink a 8oz glass of juice. Could you eat a pound of carrots? Even if the pound of carrots were put in the vitamix could you drink all of that? I think if I was sick with cancer I'd want a juice which is more concentrated. Guest guest
I guess I should clarify my question! LOL! I am getting ready to start my 10 day reboot, but only have a junk juicer. I was wondering if it would be ok to use my vitamix or if I would have to also buy a juicer. > > Is there a reason to use a juicer instead of the vitamix? Guest guest
Hi , I would just use the juicer you have. Why you may ask? Because you have it and it's only for ten days. I think folks in general get a little too concerned about the mechanics juicing/diet/type of food used rather than just doing it.I think the bigger impact the documentary made any many others is how we eat and what corrective more informed choices we make at the grocery store/farmers market/csa/etc.Sorry for the little rant, good luck on the rebootEileenOn Jan 15, 2012, at 8:10 PM, momof7c <cameronmd@...> wrote: I guess I should clarify my question! Because the movie is in great part about a "juice fast" it is what people are inspired to do. Not necessarily the BEST for ALL people, but it is GREAT for MANY and IMO - whatever it takes to inspire people to make changes towards better health, I'm all for it! Guest guest
, I did my 10 day reboot (now going on for 20 days I feel so good and need to lose a bit more weight). I didn't buy a juicer after all, but still may, who knows. I did juice in my VM and strained out excess pulp, then did a smoothie with all the pulp adding the extra juice. I like the pulp and feel it's beneficial to clean out the bowel. The juice is to add extra nutrients. The Reboot on the website is different than the video, as you can eat salads and solids. I really didn't want to get too busy with so many appliances, but the juicer could be something in the future now that I really think I've made a major lifestyle change. The VM is incredible for this detox. Don't let not having a juicer stop you. In fact for the long haul of the 60 day juice feast they recommend smoothies for the first 5 and last 5 days. No need to wait, just your VM and get going on the reboot. Clean out the fridg, get your veges and line them up, greens, roots, fruits. I use a bit of each usually in every smoothie. I'll juice like carrots (love carrot juice!), and maybe cabbage and strain that, while the last few drops are dripping into the glass I make my smoothie (no need to clean out the VM from juicing!). I'll add some fruit (I like lower carbs), like an apple, or citrus, berries, pineapple, etc, and my greens. Add the juice and blend a few seconds and there is a pitcher full of wonderful. The first couple days I was hungry at night so I did eat some refried beans from the can. just something more solid so I could sleep, but no problems now with that, but I'd feel ok if I did eat some beans. I like more bitter than sweet, so use all the stems of kale and chard. Celery gives a great flavor and I love cucumbers (actually love to eat them). I don't care much for lemon in my smoothies and what a shame as I have two lemon trees full of them ready to pick. Just fix what you like, or can tolerate for one smoothie if you make something less than exciting, just drink it and get healthy. The plan states when you get back to eating to eat meat 2-3 times a week. I think I can do that, I figure smoothies through out the day and a sensible meal at night and I'm going to be healthy for life.
Guest guest
Hello ,Thanks for the clarification :-)You can either use your Vitamix as a Juicer this way:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGendHVlxroOr you can just go with Green Smoothies. Personally, I do a combination of both.In order to get the nutrients from a full pound of greens - I juice JUST the greens. Juiced Greens (with the fiber removed) don't have a negative effect on my blood sugar levels, but if I remove the fiber from: fruits, carrots, or beets, there is a negative effect on my blood sugar levels (fiber helps slow the release of sugar into your blood stream). After juicing a pound of greens, I add the Green Juice to one of the following:- 1/2 apple, 1/2 lime, 2 carrots, ginger, one clove garlicor- berries (usually a triple berry mix like raspberries, blueberries, blackberries)or- cucumber, red pepper, celery, 2 carrots, 1/2 avocadoThe reason I juice the greens instead of blending them with the fiber like I used to is that I can get a full pound of greens into a 2-3 cup portion, but if I retained the fiber, I would only be able to get about 1/3 of a pound of greens in the same 2-3 cups. Juicing Greens is a great way to increase the Volume of nutrients I am getting from greens, and the nutrients in greens are SO GOOD for me. I've felt FANTASTIC ever since I started drinking the juice of a pound of greens per day. That was more information than you requested :-) but I wanted to try to explain the benefits of pure juices over smoothies. But what is a benefit where greens are concerned can be a detriment where blood sugar levels are concerned because the same concept (I can get more of the nutrients in the same volume if the fiber is removed) really concentrates the sugars where fruits, beets, and carrots are concerned. If you keep the fiber in, you might only use 2-3 carrots, but if you remove the fiber, you would be getting the nutrients (and all of the sugars) of 6-7 or more carrots in the same volume! Guest guest
Maybe you could also squeeze a bit more juice out of that juicer's pulp by putting it through a nut milk bag.
