Thanks for sharing! I watched the movie for the first time about a week ago. Very powerful and inspiring! I cried a few times :-)I didn't do a "re-boot" as a result of watching the movie, but I did begin to add the juice of 1 pound of greens to my Green Smoothies + a shot of wheat grass per day. I feel AWESOME!

I'm a newbie as to wheat grass...when you say you add a shot, are you referring to a certain amount, and is it fresh? Sorry to be so naive!Ginny From: Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...> Sent: Saturday, January 14, 2012 6:20 PM Subject: Re:

This is such a great lesson...one I learned the hard way after having digestive

issues most of my life. About 10 years ago, I learned to " graze " throughout the

day, rather than to ever eat a big " meal " . Our stomachs are only the size of

our FIST, so filling them stuffed full just stretches them out and bloats us-way

to hard for the system to tackle all at once. I learned that most large

animals, such as orangutans, baboons, etc. graze all day long, rather than load

up on a single big meal, and I started eating that way as well-IMMEDIATE

difference in how I feel! I am NEVER full, NEVER hungry. I eat small amounts

throughout the day. This also completely reversed my diabetes and blood sugar

issues! My weight is right where it should be. I could never go back to eating

big meals.

Hello Ginny,I buy wheat grass at a local store (need to start growing my own) and I have a wheat grass juicer (new to me). I juice about 5-6 hands full, and get about 2 oz. of juice give or take a little. When I'm at the "Happy Healthy Human" (a local raw food restaurant) I usually buy a shot of wheat grass. It is VERY strong (and some people "shoot" it) but I always "chew" my smoothies, juices, and even my wheat grass, working with nature to allow my brain to signal to my stomach what is coming. This happens because while we chew, our saliva mixes with the food (in this case juice) and begins "pre-digestion", and also signals to the brain exactly WHAT is coming (carb, protein, fat, etc.) so the stomach can be ready with the proper digestive environment (enzymes).Wheat grass is best consumed fresh, and most people don't take much more than a few ounces at a time. NO Worries about naiveté - asking good questions like this is how we all learn!

Very helpful reply, Le Ann - thanks! I'm glad to know one can buy it ready to

go, and give it a try fresh!

When I first joined the group in December, I recall your mentioning that you

chew your smoothies, and I try to remember to do that, but I forget - glad for

that reminder!! It makes perfect sense!

I have a DVD "Grow Your Own Greens" by Loreta's living foods. She shows how to prepare and grow wheat grass and then how to use it. She uses an Omega blender and Omega wheat grass juicer. It's 118 minutes long and very interesting if you want to learn how to grow your own. www.omegajuicers.com When I bought the DVD I didn't know it was for wheat grass.

Boy, I know what you mean about that movie, which was just amazing, touching, and inspiring. They definitely say you should see a doctor before a reboot, but probably for 10 days, that wouldn't be so important as the 60-days. I believe they used a Breville juicer, but I always hear that Champion is the best.Ginny From: Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...>

Hello Lucille,Yes, the "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" video advocates a Juice Only "re-boot", and I was inspired to add juicing (Greens only) to my regime after watching it. I can't juice fruits, beets, or carrots (the sugar goes into my blood stream too quickly). I started juicing the greens with my Vitamix and a nut milk bag, went out to buy a juicer (that would handle greens well - my Champion does NOT do greens…) used my juicer for about 3 days, then went back to using the Vitamix and a nut milk bag because I got MORE juice out of the fiber using the nut milk bag, and clean up was MUCH faster. Even though I bought a juicer that cleans up REALLY quickly - it still had to many parts - 10 EASY to clean parts vs. ONE nut milk bag!Right now, I'm juicing a pound of greens per day and adding that juice to ONE of the following (which has been blended in the Vitamix KEEPING the fiber):- 1/2 apple, 1/2 lime, 2 carrots, ginger, one clove garlicor- berries (usually a triple berry mix like raspberries, blueberries, blackberries)or- cucumber, red pepper, celery, 2 carrots, 1/2 avocadoThe fiber in the blended portion of my concoctions helps to slow the release of sugar into my blood stream, which helps to prevent hypoglycemia (which used to wake me up at 4 AM EVERY morning like clockwork!!)The "re-boot" advocated by the "Fat Sick, and Nearly Dead" video is a Juice Only fast for a set period of time. Even though the star of the movie and all of the participants DID get a check up by a doctor before starting the fast, most people won't (and even if they did, most doctors would only check your blood pressure, and perhaps your blood glucose levels and say, "you're good to go"). 99% of the doctors out there know nothing about nutrition or how to find the root cause of ill health as opposed to treating symptoms with drugs (end of rant).A naturopathic doctor, however, would look into things like your thyroid and adrenal function and a host of other tests and depending on the philosophy of the practitioner, might caution a person with hypoglycemia against a juice-only fast. It was something similar to a juice-only fast that caused my second "adrenal crash" from which it has taken me about 2 years to recover.I say, proceed with caution and LISTEN to your body. If after the first 3 days (when you could have some significant detox effects and feel like CRAP) you don't begin to increase in energy and have a sense of well-being, - then your body might not be best served by a drastic fast. I am feeling huge benefits from consuming the juice of a pound of greens per day while eating my regular, healthy diet which for me must include protein (only the healthiest versions :-)For most people - eliminating ALL forms of sugar (chemical substitutes included), grains, pasteurized dairy products, and ANYTHING processed would be like a fast, but would be gentler on the body (and it "could" become a life-long habit, rather than a "re-boot" :-)BTW, after the "re-boot" participants are encouraged to follow a diet much like Dr. Fuhrman's which is a predominantly plant based diet. I eat a LOT like he recommends, except that I eat more meat than he recommends, but my meat consumption is really only a very small percentage of my total daily intake…All of that being said, there is a HUGE psychological benefit to a fast. If your body is tolerating it well, after the first 3 days of possible detox symptoms, there is hardly any way to describe the natural high that one feels. The rapid results (weight loss and a measurable improvement of many health conditions like blood sugar levels, and blood pressure) help people keep on track, and encourage a life-long commitment to improved health!

I have a Jack Lalaine juicer and I like it better then those I've had in the past. It's not quite as noisy either. A few days ago I saw maybe on you tube about making crackers with the pulp.

Boy, I know what you mean about that movie, which was just amazing, touching, and inspiring. They definitely say you should see a doctor before a reboot, but probably for 10 days, that wouldn't be so important as the 60-days. I believe they used a Breville juicer, but I always hear that Champion is the best.

Hello Ginny,The Champion is an AWESOME juicer, but there are now better ones out there. People get really wrapped up in all of the hype that juicer sale people throw out to get you to buy their juicer. In the large and competitive juicer market, the Breville is really low in the area of juice quality (a lot of the best juice remains in the pulp) but it is high in the areas of ease of use and clean up. That being said LOOK at the results these people are getting using what is supposedly one of the lowest class juicers!!!The bottom line is that the BEST juicer is the one you will use EVERY DAY!!!

A thought just came to me and I wonder if you Vita-mix greens and then pour it into a juicer if it would remove the pulp? Or would it just make a big mess?

Last week I made a smoothie in my Ninja 1100 with Blueberries and frozen pineapple and veggies. The drink was so gritty that I couldn't drink it. The taste wasn't bad, just the grittiness turned me off.

Hello Lucille,

Yes, the "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" video advocates a Juice Only "re-boot", and I was inspired to add juicing (Greens only) to my regime after watching it. ONE nut milk bag!

Right now, I'm juicing a pound of greens per day and adding that juice to ONE of the following (which has been blended in the Vitamix KEEPING the fiber):

- 1/2 apple, 1/2 lime, 2 carrots, ginger, one clove garlicor- berries (usually a triple berry mix like raspberries, blueberries, blackberries)or- cucumber, red pepper, celery, 2 carrots, 1/2 avocado

The fiber in the blended portion of my concoctions helps to slow the release of sugar into my blood stream, which helps to prevent hypoglycemia (which used to wake me up at 4 AM EVERY morning like clockwork!!)

The "re-boot" advocated by the "Fat Sick, and Nearly Dead" video is a Juice Only fast for a set period of time. Even though the star of the movie and all of the participants DID get a check up by a doctor before starting the fast, most people won't (and even if they did, most doctors would only check your blood pressure, and perhaps your blood glucose levels and say, "you're good to go"). 99% of the doctors out there know nothing about nutrition or how to find the root cause of ill health as opposed to treating symptoms with drugs (end of rant).

A naturopathic doctor, however, would look into things like your thyroid and adrenal function and a host of other tests and depending on the philosophy of the practitioner, might caution a person with hypoglycemia against a juice-only fast. It was something similar to a juice-only fast that caused my second "adrenal crash" from which it has taken me about 2 years to recover.

I say, proceed with caution and LISTEN to your body. If after the first 3 days (when you could have some significant detox effects and feel like CRAP) you don't begin to increase in energy and have a sense of well-being, - then your body might not be best served by a drastic fast.

I am feeling huge benefits from consuming the juice of a pound of greens per day while eating my regular, healthy diet which for me must include protein (only the healthiest versions :-)

For most people - eliminating ALL forms of sugar (chemical substitutes included), grains, pasteurized dairy products, and ANYTHING processed would be like a fast, but would be gentler on the body (and it "could" become a life-long habit, rather than a "re-boot" :-)

BTW, after the "re-boot" participants are encouraged to follow a diet much like Dr. Fuhrman's which is a predominantly plant based diet. I eat a LOT like he recommends, except that I eat more meat than he recommends, but my meat consumption is really only a very small percentage of my total daily intake…

All of that being said, there is a HUGE psychological benefit to a fast.

You can run the pulp through a juicer, but if you've already dirtied your VM and made the pulp, if you use a nut milk bag you only have ONE part to clean, vs. in my case 10 parts.I haven't tried it either - you might end up with a mess…
