Guest guest
Yeast killers and probiotics are both very important IMO Yeast killers do exactly what they say, they get the yeast by zapping it directly. Probiotics don't kill yeast directly but are the good bacteria required to crowd out the bad bugs that are growing in our childrens guts. An approach, which is meant to enhance the activity of your yeast killer, is to give digestive enzymes (we use Candex last thing at night, on an empty stomach) that are supposed to crack open the case of the yeast, to expose it to the yeast killers. Works really well for us. Also useful is Saccharomyces bourlardii - brewers yeast - which is supposed to be harmless but very effective at crowding out the bad yeast. Effective if you can get your kid to take it, that is There's lots of conflicting adavice about when to adminster probiotics and yeast killers. With probiotics, the challenge is to get those good bugs to the lower gut where they are needed intact, without being denautured by stomach acid etc. many of us find our kids are still deficinet ijn the good bugs after years and years of supplementation with probiotics I've read that Probiotics are more likely to " stick " if given close to food. I've also read its best to give yeast killers and probiotics away from each other during the day - can't remember the details. We try yo do this, with some success. Elaine Gotschall argues that the best way to get probiotics to stick is to give live yoghurt, as detailed in her book " breaking the Visciuos cycle " I'm still to chicken to give my extremely casein sentive boy the full-blown yoghurt, but do feel intuitively this is the way to go. Oh dear, this has turned into a long email. Gotta go educate that son of mine...he was 8 at the weeken, BTW Sharon > Do people use probiotics without first treating the yeast problems or use them both at the same time? Alternatively should they be used one before the other. New to all this and not sure what works best?
