Guest guest
Here is one thought. Bob To Connie, Logan -- If your kids are having digestive problems, allergies, failure to thrive you perhaps should consider celiac disease. It often remains unrecognized, but especially in kids. Pediatricians are generally unaware and the classic if you don't know to look for it.... Celiac disease is an autoimmune digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. When people with celiac disease eat foods or use products containing gluten, their immune system responds by damaging the villi of the small intestine. Villi normally allow nutrients from food to be absorbed into the bloodstream. When damaged a person becomes malnourished, regardless of the quantity of food eaten. Often presents as failure to thrive, weight loss, or developmental delays. Can cause straight digestive symptoms (bloating, gas diarrhea etc), headaches, depression, behavioral changes, anemia. There are blood tests that can measure IgA/autoantibodies but the gold standard is biopsy. While many drs are not familiar with it, most Children's hospitals would be able to do the proper follow up.
