Myoplex Bars are made by EAS which altho affiliated with BodyForLife

they are not 'balanced' ala BFL of equal protein/carbs (in other

words they weren't made 'especially for'the BFL program) Actually not

many other bars have equal amounts of protein/carbs either - most are

either higher protein/low carbs or are energy bars with high carbs

low protien. So what you do is have a fruit with a high protein bar

or add some cottage cheese/string chees to a higher carb bar - it all

balances out at the end of the day. You can compare types of bars

(note the different categories):

The myoplex car sense bars are good, but are higher in protein than carbs. I

dont mind that though. I try to lean a little towards more protein anyway. :o)

Question about bars

Yesterday I was at Vitamin World to by bars. I looked at the myoplex

and myoplex lite and ended up not choosing them because the carbs

were so much higher that the protein. I'm confused because I thought

they would be balanced. I ended up buying some zone bars and

Symmetry bars I also bought a protoplex lite bar. They seemed more

equal in carbs and proteins . Zone had more fat and sugar than the

Symmetry. (I think that Summetry and Protoplex are Vitamin worlds

own brand that is supposed to be equal to Myoplex. ) Can anyone tell

me why Myoplex aren't as balanced as he says

Also I notice in

BFL sample menus he adds fruit to his myoplex shakes, but I thought

they were balanced, so if you add a 1/2banana than arent you having

to many carbs in that meal?

Thanks

Bridgette,

I add banana or strawberry to mine. The shakes I have are chocolate

Myoplex...58 grams of protein w/skim milk & 47 grams of carbs w/skim

milk. Without the milk Protein: 42 g Carbs: 24g So I figure it's to

balance

out the equation to equal the protein/carb...and it makes them taste

yummy! :)

I tried Zone bars once and didn't like them, might have been the flavour.

chocolate raspberry. I wish Power Bars were better because I LOVE

those...but tons of carbs and low protein.

Tink :)

Thanks for posting that site Joni! :) I really like to test

out different bars. I love those Detour bars. Really

filling and they taste like " real " chocolate bars. lol

I like the power bars, but they are MUCH higher in carbs

I think the carbs are around 42 g and the protein about 8-13

So I could just have some cottage cheese with that to even

it out? I still have some left and would like to incorporate them

with my BFL eating.

Thanks, Tink :)

Are Balance bars really bad? They're kind of high in sugar (15g) but

they are so satisfying when I'm craving something chocolatey. Is this

going to ruin my results?

23 g carbs

14g protein

15g sugar (!!)

200 calories

Hardly. Especially if you have a ways to go. (If you are close to

your ultimate goal, they might impede your progress.) I used ML bars

throughout my last challenge and did great. And they actually have

more carbs than your Balance bars.

And if they help keep you on track, then it's better to use them and

not a snickers. Know what I mean?

I'd save Power Bars for free day food. They are really high in not

only carbs, but sugar also.

This is my take on bars; I eat all of the bars that many people do not

recommend. My faves are Zone with 16g protein, Luna with only 10g

protein and various others with too much sugar. I can't stomach most of

the low sugar ones. I end up throwing 1/2 the bar away, and I'm not

satisfied after eating one. Hussman says to get 1g protein per pound of

lean body weight. My lean body weight is around 100. So, 100g of protein

divided into 6 meals is 16.6g protein per meal. Many of my meals are 20g

protein, so I see no harm in only getting 10-16g protein for one of my

meals. It's working for me; I'm in week 2 of challenge 2. These are just

my opinions...

But that means that a Luna bar won't necessarily keep me full for 2-3

hours. I'm ok with that. I might just eat my next meal in one hour. But

overall, I still eat 6 meals per day.

It all depends on the person. I occasionally eat a Balance Bar or

Zone Bar but try not to eat them that often because they are higher

in sugar. One trick I do is to cut up the Carmel Blast Balance Bars

and put them in the freezer and if I have an absolute craving for

choclate I'll eat a tiny piece of a frozen one (tastes similar to a

frozen snicker's bar). Also if I'm eating a whole bar, I'll add a

hardboiled egg white or two to up the protein some.
