I don't know about official or scientific, but here's my take on it. I get off

work at 11pm and usually eat my last meal after midnight. Staying lean is all

about building muscle, and muscles don't like it when you go 10-14 hours without

food. Suppose you don't eat anything after 7pm. Then you get up at 6am, workout

from 7:00 to 8:00, wait an hour, and WHAMMO suddenly it's 9:00 and you've been

slowing down your metabolism and eating up your own muscle tissue for 14 solid

hours. Not good, not good...

Eating at night isn't what hurts your fat loss, it's eating too many calories.

So, if your calories are right and your meals are spread evenly throughout the

day, no problemo. Now, if your calories were right but you consumed 3/4 of them

at 10:30pm, that might be bad... In general, that message about " don't eat after

a certain time or you'll turn into a pumpkin " is geared toward diet ninnies who

consume too many calories in front of the television. It doesn't necessarily

apply to Body for Lifers, because athletes need fuel.

The EAS site suggests cottage cheese and an apple as one of the best meals to

eat right before bed.

Eating before bed

My take is that you need to fuel your body and if you don't eat close

to your bedtime, your body has no fuel to build the muscle you are

working so hard to gain. I generally eat 1 hour before bed and

sometimes due to schedule, later.

I think Bill DOES say that if you wake up in the middle of the night

hungry, then you should eat. So why not eat before bed and not have

to wake up?

I do suggest low glycemic foods and maybe lower carbs at that meal.

Dr. Hussman recommends a portion of cottage cheese and apple. I like

CC and strawberries (blended w/ water for consistency, pkt Splenda

and some orange extract). It's easy and low glycemic.

And as you can see in my ('s transformation) pictures, I

don't think eating before bed hurt me at all.

I heard, or read, that serious weight lifters will set their alarms

for the middle of the night so they can get up to eat. I did that

one night. Woke up at 3am with my belly grumbling, so I ate CC and

yougert.

It's fine to eat your last meal right before bed. One of the best late-night

meals is cottage cheese and an apple. You could have something like that at

9:30pm.

That old advice about " don't eat before bed or you'll turn into a pumpkin "

applies mainly to diet ninnies who undereat all day and are then tempted to pig

out in front of the television at night. You're an athlete now, and hopefully

training really hard. You have muscles to feed and workouts to fuel!

As long as you're eating healthy, portion-controlled meals and creating a

calorie deficit every day, it doesn't matter when the last meal hits. Your body

does most of it's repair and recovery work on your muscles at night while you're

sleeping. It's kinda mean not to give it any protein to work with. :-) Not to

mention leaving you unnecessarily hungry and fatigued for morning workouts.

Hi y'all. This is my first time to post here. My name is and I'm in

the second week of my first challenge, I think that looks like c1w2d3. I'm

wondering about those 6 meals. I can't ever seem to get that sixth one in. It

seems I would have to eat right before bed to do that and it is so ingraned in

me not to eat right before bed that I just can't. Right now I eat at 6:3a,

9:30a, 12:30p, 3:30p, and 6:30p. I'm in bed at 10. What do you guys do? Do

you get all 6 meals?

thanks,
