Guest guest
Hello ladies/gents... Recently I've seen that many soapers are switching to using Rice Bran oil, in place of Extra Virgin Olive oil. One, to cut costs. Two, they say that RBO is a good replacement, if not better than EVOO. I have tried to determine if there really is a difference in the quality of the finish product when using other oils such as Corn, Soy, Rice Bran, Sunflower as the main oil and to tell everyone the truth, I can't tell the different. Although I may be going about this in an odd way, since I always now superfat with Shea Butter. I have found that even at a 5% discount without Shea, the soap is too drying for my taste, using EVOO. I've tried 10% discount without Shea, and it's not as drying, but it could be better. So I always now superfat with Shea Butter or another butter. I love Mango, too. And I find that milk soaps with Shea are even better. I have been recently making batches with Corn, Coconut, Palm and Shea Butter. And I've had several people tell me that these soaps are even better than my EVOO ones. The %'s of oils are the same, I just used Corn in place of EVOO and recalculated the lye. So this is the question: Does anyone know of any scientific tests that have been done to determine if EVOO leads to a better end product or is it just label appeal? And I had someone tell me that Corn bars are low quality, but it's just not so. Has anyone else had any experiences working with Corn, Soy, Sunflower, Rice Bran? Please let us know.
