Guest guest
Any filtration system can only (by definition) get rid of the larger particles of mold (the spores and such) With any toxic mold, a certain percentage of the particles will be too small for even a HEPA air filter to filter out. Those are also the particles that go the deepest into your lungs. They can still contain a lot of toxicity, as much as half of the toxic total, by some measures, so YES, by all means, wear an industrial grade filter mask if you want to even begin to keep the smallest, most lung-penetrating stuff out. A surgical mask may keep some of it out, but I have found that they only help a little bit. Not enough. This is just me, others may differ, but the best thing I have found for myself is put to put BIG fans blowing - one in on the upwind side, one out on the downwind side. In other words, BLOW CLEAN AIR at HIGH velocity through your house while you vaccumn. That way, most of the stuff you stir up gets pushed out - fast. Thats the only way I can do it. It needs to be a nice sunny clean air day.. On 11/26/05, B B W <barb1283@...> wrote: > > Most everyone will know things on this guide but thought I would post > anyway. Guest guest
I always have a difficult time figuring out down wind and up wind. If there is a strong wind, no problem, but on calmer days it's hard. It probably doesn't matter then anyway, right? I could just direct fans anyway, as long as one is coming in and on is going out. One can wet a finger. However when day is that calm, it seems to change from moment to moment. 3M puts out a 100N mask now I saw on allergy site. --- In , LiveSimply <quackadillian@g...> wrote: > This is just me, others may differ, but the best thing I have found for > myself is put to put BIG fans blowing - one in on the upwind side, one out > on the downwind side. Guest guest
I'm looking for a good mask to wear when cleaning. What has the group found to be the best at keeping out mold etc. Something reasonably priced. Loni barb1283 <barb1283@...> wrote: I always have a difficult time figuring out down wind and up wind. Guest guest
Loni, To keep out mold spores, I think N95 is recommended but I saw N100 by 3M at national allergy supply. For microtoxins, you'd want something with charcoal filter in it. National Allergy Supply has those also. I have not seen a N95 WITH a charcoal filter in it though. I also saw inexpensive masks at Walgreens that had charcoal in them but they didn't look like they would fit face very well. I didn't try one. I think they were about 8$ for 3 or 4 masks, not much. Charcoal impregnated mask at Allergy site was 20$ but I don't remember if that was one or more in a package. I don't know if there is anything better. I think Jeff May here who is professional inspector/air quality professional said in his book he used a N95, I believe. > > I'm looking for a good mask to wear when cleaning.
