Hi there,

A woman came into the office the other day. She gave us some prescription only products (we have an LNP on our staff who does that) but this woman said the FDA has made this prescription only. The name of the company is Panlab LLC located in LA. I cannot find thier company name in the PDR nor in the PDR for non-prescription supplements. They are basically packaging vitamins and saying these are Rx only. Now two questions come up here.... 1) Has the FDA yet to get involved with medical prescription of suppliments? 2) Are these guys just trying to get more money out of these by calling them precscription and they just have a good marketing campaign? Here is the definition of ‘medical

food’ :

I don’t think they are using ‘prescription’

as we think of prescription. You also could call a pharmacy and see if any of

there products are covered by insurance.

It would appear this company is about marketing .... synthetic nutrients tend not to have the natural alkaloids surrounding them. the alkaloids promote their absorption, digestion, distribution and utilization and is why synthetic nutrients are not a beneficial as natural products. They also applear to be supplying them 'according to the (various powers that be)', meaning they will be at the RDA levels in these 'foods'....not enough for baby or mother much less for baby AND mother.

Interesting concept though. I'm sure they will find buyers.
