Hello Helen

That is about twenty to thirty miles away and I believe the wind is

blowing the other way.

Interestingly, I had taken my car in to be inspected yesterday (last day

before the new emission tests are required) so I had to take the bus

over to the shop after work. While I was waiting for the bus I could

see huge black clouds billow from the freeway just to the east of where

I was. Eventually a bunch of fire trucks went by and the clouds turned

to white steam while a news helicopter circled around.

I was a bit worried cause the clouds were coming pretty close and I

don't like breathing problems.

I'll bet that if the big explosions in Pearland hadn't occurred this

morning, yesterday's fire that I was near would've been in the news.

Hello Helen

No I never did. I had thought about driving around to see what was

burnt out but it didn't seem worth the time. I had missed last night's

news and today's news is all about the plant explosion and fire in Pearland.

Hello Helen

Pearland is probably about twenty to thirty miles south of downtown

Houston. It is it's own little town but essentially it's just a

suburban community of Houston. It's just like how NASA isn't really in

Houston but in Clear Lake but since Houston is so spread out anyways...

Houston has also been known to annex surrounding towns just to get more

tax revenue. Several years back, a horse race track was built just

north of the city in order to avoid city taxes so the city annexed them

once the facilities was built.

I'm about twenty miles west of Houston right on the edge of Houston.

Some of the roads here enter and exit Houston three or four times

between intersections.

Most of the plants and stuff are to the east and south of Houston. It

gets real scary sometimes, they had a chlorine cloud once and kept

tracking which way it was blowing.

Houston must be one BIG city... I'm glad I live in the country... But our

little town is getting closer and closer to our place... That's what we don't

want is to be incorparated into town...

Those big plants near you would definately scare me if they were close to

me... Toledo is our big city close to us, but we are about 30 miles from it

:o) That's fine with me...

I did think Nasa was there in Houston... That was a dirty trick to pull on

that race track... Seems like things like that could be stopped...

How are you doing ??? Busy ???

Sixty miles ??? Unbelieveable !!! Here I thought Toledo was too big... i

can't fanthom the size you are speaking of... Travel is something I rarely

do... I don't even know what ring roads are... I presume they circle the

city... That's nice taking your visitors to Nasa, when you know it is so hard

on you...

Hello Helen

Houston is probably about sixty mile across in diameter. They are

doing a third ring road but it's turned into a sort of a C cause they

ran out of land, the circle basically reaches out over the gulf of

Mexico and they are already talking about starting a fourth ring road.

I like to think of the ring roads as bullseye rings.

The problem with such a spread out city is that if you like having an

acreage, you have to put up with an incredible commute.

I don't mind what they did to the race track cause it's basically

gambling and I think there's entirely too much profit in such an

operation anyways.

I takes me almost an hour to get down to NASA. It's kinda of tiring

because every visitor wants to go to NASA but then the space program is

something special.
