Hi Helen

I am really hitting the pain pills. My tail is still sore, but not as painful. If I sit to long WOW. Something either tore or dislocated yesterday between my leg and torso, causing acute pain in the butt...lol Also pain down my already bad leg. The pain killers take the edge off so that I can at least move around. The reason I think it might be the prednisone causing this is b/c I have had two collar bone tears, and my left hip, now the right one. I wasn't doing anything strenuous at the time. I just have to wait and let it heal. They can't do anything for it. My family says I'm scary, I think I told you they won't let me do anything for fear I'll hurt myself. I guess I showed them they are right. I want to know how you are. None of this "I'll be fine," girl I want you to be fine now. I honestly am so worried about you. You can not tell me you are not sweet. Hey I read very well and know that you are loving and kind and caring and good and, and, and,

I have been on prednisone since Oct. 99. It was the only med. that I could tolerate. I tried to get off of it, but found I had to have it. Now I'm on just 5mgs. Had been up to 50. This what ever it is in my hip should heal in a few days. It is really a pain....lol You take care. How is Nana with the pc?

Hi Ling,

We sure know what pain is all about, don't we? Mine usually is bearable, but when these tears or pulls happen it takes time to heal. With arthritis in my knees, broken tail bone, pinched nerve, and aches all over along with the problem, it gets to me, so I use the pain killers, gradully taking fewer and fewer until I don't need them. I admire your determination to go to school and teach with the pain you suffer with. When I was teaching I suffered with horrible headaches. When I retired the headaches went away. I think they were caused by blood pressure being so high. We found this about the same time. These discoveries came when my Dr. retired and I found a new Dr. who really cared and still does. Hi Carolyn,

Sorry to hear about the pain! I hate painkillers too, but I just can't seem to be able to survive much without them too.

How are you today?

Hi Carolyn,

YOu taught before too? Sorry I forgot....... yeah, sometimes the headaches really do nearly kill me. I am still having teacher training now, finishing in May. Sometimes the pain get so bad, it is really difficult to hide it, I just leave the classroom and go out and groan.

I'm so glad that you got yourself a great doc! My endocrinologist [he cares for my diabetes] is wonderful..... my pain doc, well, see him on Fri and see what he says.... he made me wait for a few days in pain to see him, in the end I went to another hospital.

Pain........ only we in this group understand each other! ;-). Sometimes, when I look back, i marvel at myselt how I manage to take it for so long..... haha. I sometimes think like that just to cheer myself up.

, Did you get your blood sugar under control? If so what did you do?

I have had diabetis for 30 years, and now all of a sudden it has shot way up

and I can't get it under control. Dr. says it is b/c of an infection in my

body. I have taken a lot of antibiotics and still having problems. Just

wondering how you dealt with it.

Well,

Lots has happened since I've been on. I am now considered a brittle

diabetic. I've been passing out and having a heck of a time. Things

the last few days have been better, not having to take so much insulin.

I now take insulin a minimum of 5 times a day, average 7 times a day. I

have the 75/25 lispro that I take with meals, and I have prn regular,

and prn ultra-fast acting I can take every 3-4 hrs as needed.

Infections make things worse with me too. And lately, I have fevers for

no reason at all. Weird. But overall, things seem better the last

couple of days.

Gee Whiz , mine is nowhere as bad as yours. I am thankful that I don't have to go through all of that. I do take three different pills through out the day. I used to be on insulin, but the Dr. took me off of it and does not want to put me back on it. I will wait and see what she wants to try next. Thanks for your information. Good luck with getting yours worked out also.

Ling, I was on oral meds. then the last time I was in the hospital I was put on insulin. Then about six months ago I was taken off of insulin and put back on oral meds. I did fine until a month ago, now I am on three oral meds, and double the dosage of the first one. I am still over 300. It has come down some.

Fevers for no reason requires attention. May I suggest you get it checked

out with your doc if it persists?

As for myself, actually my own sugars have been going up too recently,

especially post-meal readings. And I started to get itches on my legs too.

Have tried putting lots of moisturiser already, helping a little but not

much. Will be seeing my endo tomorrow, so I will tell him about this and see

what he says...I expect my HbA1c to high though.....

Carolyn,

I'm just glad things settled down some. At first, I had constant infections that just fed the whole cycle! It was so maddening. My doctors were reluctant to let me have control over my insulin. Meaning, I wanted insulin that I could take if my sugars were high, they wanted me on a set schedule. Stress seems to affect my sugars more than anything, and I felt I needed more than what I was getting. The 75/25 has 75% long acting, and 25% medium acting insulins, so if I took that for an on-the-spot insulin, I'd fall on my face when the long acting peaked (10 hours). I wanted ultra-fast acting that I could take whenever I felt like it, they didn't want that. I finally just got fed up and told them that I controlled my health, NOT them! Things have been better ever since. When I got my sugars stabilized with insulin, the infections stopped. I do watch my sugar and carb intake, and I do have one pepsi a day (Gasp!) I figure as long as I keep it to a minimum, I'm not hurting anyone. After all, I am a living, breathing, human. They can't tell me to eat lettuce and drink water for the rest of my life. All in all, things are in better control now. I know people tend to react funny when I tell them how much insulin I am on, but it is the best thing that has ever happened to me, really. I take lesser amounts more frequently throughout the day, and it keeps me stable. Well, it works, for now anyway. How have you been? I've missed you all so much!!!

Ling, I will try to make sense with this. I am taking 19 different meds at this time. I am taking 2 for diverticulitis, 2 for blood pressure, 3 for diabetis, 1 for kidney stone, 2 for water retention, 1 for hormones, 3for MG, 3 for asthma, 2 for arthritis, 5 vitamin supplements. I have blood tests every two months, so far they have been good. The blood sugar was normal this morning which made me happy. I noticed that you and I are on Avandia. This is the last med I was given and I have gone down with it. We noticed that everytime she added new meds the blood sugar went up. I am very frustrated with all of this. I don't like taking all these meds, but she becomes upset if I balk about it. I know they help, but like you I worry about the combination of all of these. I hope all of this is clear to you.

Carolyn,

Are you under a lot of stress or having an active infection? Are you taking other meds other than the diabetic meds? sometimes these may cause the sugar to go up. What about your combination of meds - can you please tell me?

I hope that all is well for you Ling. Thank you for your response. I am doing some better on the diabetes. My fasting count (first thing in the morning) is doing perfect, the rest of the day I am elevated, but not as high as it was. I will check with the Dr. and see what she thinks now. I am wishing that the pain management will help you.

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks so much for your reply. I guess the addition of new meds may cause a little stress on the body for a while, but once the body gets used to the new med, the sugar levels should go back to normal. How long have you been taking the Avandia? If you have just started taking it, then you may have to wait for a little while to see results. However, Avandia is believed to be highly effective in bringing the overall sugar levels down.

Hope the sugar's in control now,

Ling
