OK all ya'll

I can't stands it no more cause I can't stands it no more.

If you are ' hawking ' Chiropractic it will not matter if you are doing it in your clinic/wal mart/ local club ... whatever.. it will come across as unprofessional

On the other hand if you are being professional and there to ' serve' , that also will come across.

I applaud everyone who is there to serve and educate the public about true health, in whatever format they feel is appropriate !

Regards

Danno

How you market your practice is extremely personal.

If you are attractive, it is easier and your practice grows rather quickly.

Same thing if you have a clear and powerful message.

Of course, it helps to have a factory installed confidence or a hidden income stream.

Over the years, it is common to learn that things are not as they appear; a patient opts out of care for no reason and you beat up on yourself. They return months or years later and let you know that their spouse was beating up on them about the money for care. They ask to restart their treatment plan and ask to go to work for you so they can get treated more often.

Someone else may be embarrassed by street preachers, barbeque evangelizers, bus botherers, etc.. You find out alter that they don’t really believe in Hell so the urgency of the gospel is passé’. You get the point.

I had a classmate named Tom Ness who was an nice, low key, not dynamic guy.

He was totally confident and knew he was going to succeed and to the best of my knowledge, he has.

I later learned that he was returning to a Puget Sound town to practice with his dad (and brother, as I recall).

I now realize how valuable that family support and clinical setting would have been for me.

I rented space from someone who did not care to show me the ropes.

I went whole days seeing just one patient. Going out and meeting people to be patients was like trying to get a date when you have the self image of a woodchuck. In fact, I got rejected from the FOOW (Fraternal Order of Woodchucks).

Tom also had huge belief in chiropractic.

Something that the philosophy teachers I had at WSCC did not promote probably because you can’t teach what you don’t have.

I also had a classmate who went into practice with a childhood friend who had a busy practice in an outlying suburb.

He worked alternate days from his pal and did vacation relief for his pal as the pal’s wife was a high paid executive and they vacationed a lot.

My friend was often experiencing the confidence building of 80-100 patients per week and had tons of walk ins on Saturday from the established doc’s practice.

After my friend built his own following of dedicated patients, he would go on about how he built his practice from scratch and in some ways was better than his pal as patients who had tried them both were choosing him. He is a great doc today and cannot for the life of him believe that is was any easier to be in the culture of his partner to help him build his practice. He doesn’t know any different.

It appears that comparing ourselves to one another is inaccurate as none of us REALLY walk in the other’s shoes. (As Jack Handy says, “Before you judge a man, you should walk a mile in his shoes. Then you will be a mile away and you will have his shoes.”)

Comparing ourselves to MD’s is inaccurate as well. If you didn’t need a prescription to buy drugs and have commercials telling you to get vaccinated or your kid is going be autistic, MD’s would be doing a lot of shoestring advertising as well. In fact, I saw a double ad placed over a urinal at a ski area recently advertising elective eye surgery on one panel and Viagra on the other. How tacky is that? The has to be a joke in there about ED and vision; like “Here’s wood in yer eye!”, or “Be Careful with that, you could put someone’s eye out...and if you do, or if you can’t, see Drs. Joe and Bob at Mt. Hood Lasik and Urology Center in Welches!...or something like that!

I doubt anything docs say on this subject will change each other’s minds.

My original post was to encourage docs who are building their practices so they can contribute to society’s health and of course to ICE PAK.

....and when was the last time you witnessed a medical physician standing in the middle of Walmart performing those free BP checks, Cholesterol finger pricks, and/or administering flu shots???

Conversly I've often thought that having a well trained and professional looking CA/CAs performing these spinal screenings and providing informational literature and sceduling free consultations and examinations with the DC back at his/her clinic would be a more professional method by which to do this stuff.....but again whatthehelldoIknow!

Re: [From OregonDCs] Spinal screenings and chiropractic self image

What is the difference between a D.C. doing a professional, educational spinal screening and the free blood pressure screenings, cholesterol screenings and discount flu shots so commonly seen? If the intent is increasing public awareness and knowledge of how the body really works and providing an opportunity to the public that is not otherwise available to learn about Chiropractic I don't see the harm. Perhaps those that are uneasy with the concept are not as secure in their self-image as they would like to believe. Further more, if we think that the survival of the profession is dependent upon convincing others such as M.D.s, PhD.s etc of our value I think we are mistaken. I think our survival, historically, as been dependent upon grass roots support of enthusiastic chiropractic patients and I don't think that has changed. The only time we will have the support of allopathic medecine is when they figure out how to patent and bottle the benefit of a chiropracti adjustment.

Good idea. How about : Your mom always told you that you would go blind doing that....and when you do, come to Mt.Hood Lasik center.
