Guest guest
Hi, We have pick-up games of gym hockey twice weekly. We play in sneakers in a gym with plastic sticks and felt pucks. There is no checking, and protective gear is optional. Most of us wear eye protection and street hockey gloves. Some wear carpenter knee pads so we can drop to block shots and kids' soccer shin pads as well. We play at Willamette Athletic Club (on Macadam in 's Landing) on Wed. evenings 7-9 and Sunday mornings 11-1. We have been experimenting with Saturday mornings 10:30-12:30 instead of Sundays so I can go to church and ask forgiveness for my behavior in the previous game. As many of us belong to other health clubs, the WAC gives us reduced rates at about $35 per month as we only play twice per week, and we agree to not use the provided towels and toiletries. If you know someone who want to play, look us up on the web at www.gymhockey.com (the site is being upgraded this weekend but is still works and where I am prominently and notoriously displayed as a veteran who still scores occasionally). You may also contact Dr. Rick Brinkman, N.D., our " GM " at rick@.... We take an email census 2-4 days prior to each game to make sure there are 8 or more people to make teams. This way, no one drives from some forsaken outpost (Gresham) to find out that the game was called due to lack of interest. We have a bunch of Russian guys, a bunch of naturopaths and students, we have had gals play in the past, but alas only one chiropractor. Lots of fun and a killer cardio workout. ( E.
