Guest guest
My christmas gift this year is a Breville Sous Chef food processor. It came yesterday afternoon and I spent the rest of the day fooling around with it. What a machine! It's incredible powerful with an amazing tight seal. My first learning experience came when I was putting it together. I couldn't get the top on. I has a very tight seal and for some reason I couldn't get it to seat properly. Well, I messed with it for such a long time until I realized I was doing it backwards. On the Cuisinart you set the top on and then push to the right, the Breville is just the opposite. I don't think Australia has heard " righty tighty, lefty loosey " . <g> Next I opened the amazing Tool Box, wait till you see that, and decided I'd try the " S " Blade first since that has always been the tool I've used the most. So I put it in. It has a different feel since it's not plastic and I really couldn't tell if it was seated or not. OK it's in, put the lid on (still learning how to do that) Pushed the pulse button. Nothing. Took it apart and tried to force the S blade down figuring it was not making the connection. Tried the pulse again. Still nothing. After many tries I was despairing and thought how terrible it was going to be I'd have to send it back because it was too hard on my wrists to use. THEN I saw it. A power button! An on/off power button, something my Cuisinarts never had. If they were plugged in they had power. I felt like a total fool since the darn button was right in front of me big as life. So after an hour figuring out how to get the electrical power cord pushed inside the machine so it didn't hang out on the counter, getting the lid on and the power button on I was ready. I peeled a couple of potatoes to try. First out, french fries. The whole large potato fit in the enormous feed tube and in two seconds had beautiful french fries cut. That was my " lets do something easy " step since I've used that tool many times on my various Cuisinarts. Next, the adjustable slicing tool. Never had this on the Cuisinart. I set it for somewhere in the middle. I have no idea what the settings are since it's not in inches and I'm one of the old folks that doesn't know the new method. Anyway, I set it for 5 which seemed to be a good place to start. It goes up to 8 I think. Well, in two seconds I had that potato sliced in perfect slices just the same thickness I use for Pommes . So the mandolin goes in the downstairs cupboard! I'm going to have such fun with this. It's a gnarly beast for sure and I can't wait to do more with it. asked me if I had someone I could give my Cuisinart to and I told him that I had every Cuisinart I had ever owned, from the original French one which it all metal and I wasn't about to get rid of the current one. Think of them like an old car collection. All pretty shiny in a row. Since the Breville has a small bowl which sits in the large bowl I was able to move the tiny Cuisinart downstairs too which give me more room on the counter. So now my Vitamix has a big shiny companion on my counter. I'll take a photo of it and here is a link to the uTube video. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6z_71Z-3m8> terry terry
Guest guest
Congratulations on your new tool. I have had my Cuisinart DLC 7 food processor since the early 80's and it still serves me well today. It is the best for making both bread and pasta dough. I have collected most of the cutting and shredding blades over the years but since I only cook for two now I don't use them very often so I still use a mandolin for most of my cutting tasks. I am ashamed to admit it but I also use a Veg-O-Matic still for making oven french fries. I bought this a number of years ago at a garage sale for a $1 and it still works great even though it must be over 40 years old.
