Guest guest
Hello Everyone,Lots of people are interested in using their Vitamix to help them lose weight. I received this AWESOME testimonial, and am very happy to share it! (Notice that they lost 200 pounds between the two of them!!!) =======================Lea Ann,I met you briefly at Whole Foods in ville on Monday and mentioned that my wife and I had lost a lot of weight, thanks in part to our Vitamix. Here's the story: Two years ago on Thanksgiving, after sharing a meal with friends both of us decided that the time had come to get a handle on our health and fitness. Priority #1 was to shed some excess weight. I had owned a Vitamix before and enjoyed smoothies, soups and other treats, but for some reason did not stick with it. We knew that (a) we had to eat healthier foods in reasonable quantities and ( we needed to track our intake of calories. The plan turned out to be (1) invest in a Vitamix as a way to help us eat healthier, low fat, nutritious food, (2) cut out fast food and reduce dining out in general, and (3) monitor calorie intake and calories burned. To a large extent, the Vitamix made cutting out fast food easy. We both love smoothies, and I could quickly mix up a couple of day's worth in the Vitamix. Bananas, apples, oranges, pineapple, grapes and other fruits became the staple of our morning and noon meals in the form of smoothies (two a day, every day.) But in addition to the fresh fruit we included prunes, dates, dried mango and papaya, along with fresh veggies, including carrots, yellow squash, zucchini, snap peas, and even broccoli and spinach, and grains like oatmeal and whole wheat. Seasonal or frozen additions like berries, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries and peaches provided variety. Basically, whatever looked interesting in the produce aisle could end up in the smoothie. We never felt deprived because of the variety of tastes (and colors) and the smoothies were not only filling but provided lasting satisfaction (not to mention being delicious!) For dinner, we ate a lot of seafood (baked, not fried) and steamed veggies, often accompanied by a hot soup from the Vitamix. I'd be lying if I said that was the whole story. We found that tracking calories and monitoring our activity was key to losing the weight. There's no secret and no magic formula to weight loss: eat fewer calories than you burn and the pounds will go away. The Vitamix just makes it enjoyable to eat healthier, low fat and low calorie meals, and the fact that I could measure everything that went into the smoothie means that we knew how many calories each ounce of smoothie contained. But knowing how many calories you eat is only half of it, and measuring our calories burned required another device. We chose the Fitbit (from fitbit.com) which monitors your movements and tells you how many calories you are burning. Fitbit also provide tracking of your calories (eaten and burned) and weight, along with tools to help you reach your goal on their web site. I know it's not a product you represent, but it was one of the keys for us to lose the weight. Our goal was to eat 500 calories less each day than be burned. That's 3500 calories a week, which is the number of calories in a pound of fat. And it worked! We lost, on average, 3-4 pounds a month. Monitoring calories burned also inspired us to begin an exercise program -- once we had lost enough weight to do so safely. I am now running around 40 miles a week and bicycling, my wife enjoys "power walks" and we both work out with weights several times a week. Since the more calories you burn, the more you can eat, burning the extra calories from exercise means we can "exercise" the Vitamix and enjoy more yummy, healthy dishes. Plus, we get the health benefits of regular exercise. The end result: I have lost over 90 pounds (going from a 44-inch to a 31-inch waist) and my wife has lost 110 pounds! It's amazing when we see friends and family who haven't seen us in a while. Some don't even recognize us. We'll continue to use the Vitamix (and the Fitbit and fitbit.com website) to stay healthy and trim for the rest of our lives. Thanks for listening,Tom =====================================Isn't that Great?
