thanks for the info, I can use all I can get. Ive been in a lot of pain and

im taking my meds. Knee just burns and feels like needles. I suppose it

mending....... Doctor today says its doing good. He left the staples in to long

so they had to dig them out !! I almost didn't make it,, urp urp.

I think im going to drag out the old horse machine and start working it

back and forth. Its kinda low impact. PT says its okay but no bike yet. Mostly

compression boot and electrodes right now. Im glad I had it done now. Weve had

winter since October so ice is knee deep and not safe to walk on. Hubby has

trouble getting me to pick up without falling. Hes been a great caregiver ,

which Im sure is not easy. thanks for your help mary and got any more ideas

Hi ,

Welcome to the group, you will get lots of expert advice, mine is only basic

As I had my knee done 15 years ago, and I have just had a hip done.,

Don't be brave, take your pain meds on a regular basis.,

Try elevating the leg often too. You are doing the right thing with ice in

the early days.

And keep doing your PT.

Hi,

Just stopping by to say hello. I had total knee replacement three weeks

ago and was looking for a support group. Im a tough old farm wife but this

has been a tought one for sure. I got my staples out today and knee is hot

and swelled up tonite , so back to the ice pack.

Im getting around and 92 degree motion and pt says everything is lookin

good. Just have these episodes like restless legs and just wont quit. Any

ideas on how to get through these painful episodes. May you feel free to ask

for support in anyway i can.

thanks, linda in montana

Hi , Just keep in there. It takes a really long time to feel that the

whole thing was worth it. Three weeks is not a lot of time as TKRs go. Keep

with the meds. They really will help with the therapy. I was still using the

walker at three weeks, but graduated to the cane soon after. It's a good tine

to be inside anyway!

Best of luck, Joan in NYC, (for the next three days) TKR 12/09

thanks lin for the support and info .

Ive been trying some of your ideas with the pillows in bed and they have

helped some. Felt so good today I rode to big city with my daughter. She went

inside to get groceries for me and I stayed in the car and baby sat. Baby got

fussy so I had to get into back seat. Had a little trouble pulling leg into back

seat but had to make it. Had fun playing with baby and when it was time to get

back up to the front seat my leg wouldn't do it.. duh what a dummy@@ I had to

turn around and back out the door but I made it. Its taking a lot of different

tricks working with this new knee to get around. But glad I had it done.....

Hi (Montana)

>>HI,,,,my pt says I will get more relief six weeks out. im on a stationary

>>bike now and just can make a full rotation. Im four weeks out ...the pain

>>is better then it was. Having problems turning sideways when im trying to

>>sleep at nite. It wakes me up and I end up in the recliner. I miss driving

>>but know my right leg will not respond fast enough to hit the brake. I do

>>hope the pain slows down at six weeks. But will it be just like new in a

>>year...... or will I still have a limp and click?

I've not had a limp for several months, so you should be limp-free

eventually! It does still click though, which I found slightly irritating,

as my old knee clicked, but I've got used to it now

I had trouble sleeping initially but I found that supporting my knee on a

thin pillow really helped me get more comfortable, and eventually I was able

to go without it. To begin with I couldnt sleep on my suide at all, as it

was too painful, so had to just lie on my back. I used a vee pillow as well

as my usual one to raise my shoulders a bit - that helped as well. I had

real difficulty for a couple of months getting comfortable on my recliner

though - I tried so many combinations of pillows and cushions - sometimes

needed a different set each day!

Hope you improve soon

I'm probably too late to help you....but perhaps my response will help others.

I too suffered from restless leg... bothered me especially at night (usually

woke me up at 1AM, and kept me awake until 4AM).... After a few nights of this

I decided to " use " my awake time to do another set of exercises... I found that

the trick (for me) to break the wrestless leg was to do stretches. I would do

stretches each time the leg started twitching and I was able to go back to

sleep.... My problem with wrestless leg seemed to happen from weeks 3 through 7

post-op. After that, I didn't have too much of a problem.

Hope this helps someone...
