Hi All,

This year Trent started at SO Bowling - as there can be with organisations

there has been a few unsettled moments within management. Although my

sister is treasurer her son is not involved with bowling, I have been very

critical of the running of the night and possibly being unfair comparing it

with another league Trent plays in. The girl who managed the night is

moving to another area of the state and will no longer be involved,

apparently I have been considered to take over, which I'm not prepared to do

at this point in time but happy to help out with things such as the

paperwork and new ideas.

As such, I was wondering how leagues in other areas operate.

This group -

The athletes choose at the end of the preceding year who will be in their

team, regardless of ability it is all about having fun - don't get me

wrong here but am concerned they are not learning and improving.

There isn't anyone to show or advise how to improve your game.

They do play each week using the two lane system - I'm not sure that is

necessary all year - think it would be better to concentrate on improving

your game, then when regional/state games are looming to then concentrate on

the finer aspects of dual lane games ie. Waiting your turn.

Many of the athletes do not put their bowling first - frequently not

turning up but pre bowling. Pre bowling is fine but a different ball game

so to speak. One girl in Trent's team this year, for 6 months only played

every second week as she played netball the alternate week. She won a

couple of Bowler of the week, on these pre bowled weeks.

At the end of the year, all participants receive a trophy .

After State games in September, a number of athletes have been absent, I'm

guessing the number has dropped by half. No doubt this number will

increase at the beginning of the new year.

Apparently Presentation night - when trophy's are handed out will this year

be poorly attended - why I have no idea. We are not going as it doesn't

appeal to me - time or venue.

Would really love to hear of how other SO run their bowling competition

Thanks for taking the time to reply

Keep smiling

Jan - mother of Trent 27 yo w/DS from the LandDownUnder
