Guest guest
Haven't really posted in a long time, so I guess I am making up for lost time We are really working on independence with . When we go out to eat, he orders his food all by himself (both fast food and sit down). It can get tricky because he is not always really clear with his speech. Sit down is easier, because he can point at the menu while he is saying it. We recently went on a weeklong trip and he had to order three meals a day for the whole week. Almost every waiter needed him to repeat several times, but he did get MUCH better at it by the end of the week. I was so happy to see the patience that most people had in working with him. There are still a lot of great people in this world! So, yesterday, I also told him that he had to go pick up his own prescription at Walgreens. I did follow behind him really far back, but he thought he was alone in the store. As I watched, I suddenly got really nervous. I had forgotten that they ask you to verify the address. We have been working on that, but you can't understand him very much on that yet. I saw the pharmacist lean in closer, then held up his medical alert bracelet and turned it over to the underside where his address is. The pharmacist looked at it, then said, yes, this is you. They both smiled and took his bag and walked back to the front of the store beaming. My heart swelled with pride for him. I had never taught him to do that. It gives me hope that some day he really can do much more for himself Thanks for letting me share this little milestone in problem solving. I so appreciate this list!
