We live in Ohio & every year around this time because of the weather change our

almost 9 year old with Ds, Grace, gets very snotty...literally! I feel so bad

for her & don't seem to know what to do to help. The doctor just keeps telling

us to put a humidifier in her room, which we do, but it doesn't seem to do

anything. She sneezes constantly & her nose is either severly stuffed up or

running. She doesn't quite understand how to blow her nose so this leads to

(I'm sorry to be gross) all that mucus running down into her throat & her

coughing or rather choking on it & gagging. This happens especially at night

when shes trying to sleep so she ends up being very unrested. Her nose is so

tiny, which means tiny nasal passages & her tonsils always look so huge to me,

which the doctor doesn't seem concerned about. However, they are so large they

are almost touching & that is even when they aren't irritated.

I could really use some advice as to what to do so that my poor baby can sleep

without gagging herself awake & not being able to breath out of her nose.

Should we insist on going to an ear, nose & throat doctor? I just honestly

don't know & I feel so clueless as to how to help my own child!

As always, your advice & experiences shared are deeply appreciated!

Shalanna, mom to Grace (almost 9 ds) & Jay 6
