Guest guest
Hi, Les. I do make pumpkin seed butter and sunflower butter all the time-I don't add any oil. Usually, I cook my pumkins whole in my solar oven, so the seeds are cooked and moist enough to make a good butter, but if you want raw seeds, you can cut the pumpkin whole and use them that way. For either sunflower or raw pumpkin seed butter, I find you can eliminate the oil by soaking the seeds for a few hours in room temp quality water (don't use chlorinate, enhanced or purified water since the chemicals will inhibit the sprouting effect) Then, just drain well and buzz up in the Vitamix, tamping well and adding a touch of sea salt, if desired, and a drop or two at a time of water or nut milk to moisten-delish! > > - I think you had said in a past post that you have made this? > Did it need add'l oil put in? And, if so, do I grind up the seeds first and see if they need it? Or do the seeds need the oil from the start in order for the VM to properly blend them? Thanks, I couldn't find anything in the VM cookbook on this, only on peanut butter - les >
Guest guest
- thank you so much for the reply! I have been dying to make pumpkin seed butter in my VM; I love the seeds that I roast in the oven, and I really do love the roasted taste (I think Lea Ann does also?) So I would guess that they might be dried out a bit by the roasting (as opposed to raw seeds), but I am also guessing that one does not soak roasted seeds in water, right? (I am not a cook, you can tell, right?)Les > > > > - I think you had said in a past post that you have made this? > > Did it need add'l oil put in?
