Guest guest
Another thought here, if you're not already using hormone free milk and dairy in your home, this might be another thing to consider doing. Below is info from mercola.com on some of the problems with dairy cows treated with genetically engineered or recombinant bovine growth hormone cows and the milk they produce - most notably the possible induction of premature growth. " The Problem With Milk Milk and dairy products from cows treated with the genetically engineered bovine growth hormone (rbGH) contain an increased amount of the hormone IGF-1 -- one of the highest risk factors associated with *** and prostate cancer. The Council on Scientific Affairs of the American Medical Association called for more studies to determine if ingesting " higher than normal concentrations of [iGF-1] is safe for children, adolescents, and adults. " Sam Epstein, M.D., Chairman of the Cancer Prevention Coalition and author of eight books, wrote, " rbGH and its digested products could be absorbed from milk into blood, particularly in infants, and produce hormonal and allergic effects. " He described how " cell-stimulating growth factors ... could induce premature growth and *** stimulation in infants, and possibly promote *** cancer in adults. " Dr. Epstein pointed out that the hormones in cows could promote the production of " steroids and adrenaline-type stressor chemicals ... likely to contaminate milk and may be harmful, particularly to infants and young children. Guest guest
The elevated mercury somehow causes testosterone to be produced early instead of DHEA. The mercury bonds in some sort of testosterone " sheets " which makes it difficult to remove even with chelation. You lower testoerone Lupron and I think you start chelating and get better success. Don't quote me on this. Check out the Geirs video on the autismmedia.org site. Then look at all the Geier bashing on the internet. > > > > > > > > Is there a good reason to get my son's level > > checked? Guest guest
Email me off list and I can send you a bunch of papers on the subject given to me by Dr. Geier. The gist of it is that mercury-toxic kids have depleted glutathione... and glutathione helps regulate the production of testosterone. When glutathione is low... testosterone is over- produced. When testosterone is high, a person's mercury burden is more toxic to the nervous system than it would be otherwise... because testosterone and mercury are synergistically toxic. Lowering testosterone helps to raise glutathione levels... which helps to eliminate heavy metals. The lupron protocol is not an autism cure... but a great treatment for kids with this problem... and the benefits are numerous. My daughter has made gains she just couldn't prior to this protocol. And she's healthier and HAPPIER than she's ever been since she regressed at 15 months of age. > > > > > > Is there a good reason to get my son's level checked? Guest guest
Just remember the onset of puberty can start as early as 8 or 9 and it be normal. Granted, it's not the norm, but it is on the very low end of what could be considered normal. Have his levels checked but don't automatically assume something is wrong. Guest guest
I'm 52, and I've been Poz for over 25 years. I started taking testosterone supplements via Androgel probably about 5 years ago and switched to shots about three years ago. The benefits to my health; muscle mass, energy levels, psychological benefits. I felt old and tired in my late 40s, and I couldn't put on muscle mass at the gym. In fact, despite long, regular workouts, I was losing mass. I was experiencing some wasting. If you're a regular in this group, you know how devastating wasting can be and how important muscle mass appears to be for those of us who are Poz. Testosterone has essentially staved off that decline and allowed me to make progress. I have more physical and mental energy; that helps me keep at the workouts. There's much less of a problem with depression. I'm not saying that everyone should jump onto testosterone. I'm just saying that you need a doctor who knows the subject and can address your questions with informed objectivity, instead of ingorance and fear. Does this help? Guest guest
I usually send women who are struggling with weight loss to a physician,PA, or NP that practices Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy. I have seen very good results and few side effects in women who use this. It's important that the practioner prescribing testosterone do so only based on lab results as too high of a level can potentialy lead to cancer. testosterone Hi group, I think this has been discussed before on the listserve so sorry if I am asking a repeat question. Does anybody have surgeons or MD’s they work with that test testosterone levels in women as a cause of inability to lose weight. I have a patient coming in that they were testing this and would like to have more information. Does supplementing with this hormone if it is low increase rate of weight loss? My patients problem is lack of physical activity, but, they are trying to look at testosterone. Thanks in advance. Guest guest
From my expereince most practioners that do BIHT would supplement at that level. I've looked for research patients on this and haven't found any. I do know my mom is doing BIHT (including a small amount of testosterone) along with exercise and nutrition and has lost 50 pounds in 4.5 months. I've got other clients on BIHT as well and can defintely see a big difference in results between those women who do and don't use this approach. That being said, I think you need to make sure that whoever you refer patients to does frequent testing to keep hormone in optional ranges but not above the high end as this can defintely lead to health issues.
