Guest guest
Jace had airway surgery on Tuesday. They ballooned open his airway as it was too narrow. They performed a supraglotoplasty (taking extra tissue off of the glotis). They also found that one of the branches going from the airway to his lungs is coming off of his trachea. Since heart surgery was already scheduled for last Friday they decided to keep him intubated and sedated rather than extubate and then have to reintubate within a few days. They took him into cardiac surgery at 7:30am on Friday and called us to talk to the surgeon about an hour and a half later. They cancelled his surgery due to his IV in his arm infiltrating and swelling up. They thought the swelling was bad enough that if he was put on heart bipass and it swelled more he could lose his arm. Then they decided to extubate him and the plan was to send him home and return in two weeks for cardiac surgery. Well that plan has not worked out. Jace is not eating by mouth due to breathing too fast. So now they are trying to decide whether to place a NJ or NG tube or not. We should know more on Monday what the new plan is. We are still in ICU. Sue and Rich
