I have a procter-silex with a glass container. (They make ones with plastic

too). It has an " ice crusher " feature, which works pretty well when you are

blending ice cubes or frozen fruit into things, but not too well if you are jsut

trying to blending something that is frozen by itself. I noticed this mornign

that it is starting to lsoe its oomph, but it is 4 years old and gets heavy use.

I also have a braun hand blender with an ice crusher bowl that is unbelievably

good.

Blenders?

My blender needs to be replaced and I am looking for advice. The one

that I am saying goodbye to doesn't do a good job of crunching up my

ice, they just bounce around in the blender. It has some other

issues as well. What brand do you suggest? Thanks!

I have the Oster with the stainless " beehive " design base and glass

pitcher. I LOVE it! just got it after lots of research...about $45

at wal-mart. it only has one speed...turbo! but you can pulse it or

hold it on longer but you really don't need to...it does an awesome

job!

I used to use cheap plastic blenders that barely ground ice. No more! After

nearly being wiped out by a rain of flying blender shrapnel and pink Myoplex, I

got myself a SERIOUS blender. It's a stainless steel Waring Professional Bar

Blender. OMG, this thing rules! Check it out:

I even wrote a poem about it.

Why I Love My Blender

By Cloe

I love the excellent chink-chink-chinking ice against metal sound that it makes

when it pulverizes ice cubes.

I love the way the frost creeps up the side of the steel container when I'm

blending something cold.

I love the way the heavy-duty rubber and steel parts don't twist or click, they

drop into place with a solid thunk.

I love its nifty industrial, cold war, " I could survive a nuclear holocaust "

50's appearance.

I love that it has a toggle switch, something sorely lacking on most 21st

century appliances.

I love that it weighs enough to remain totally motionless even when I throw in a

frozen watermelon and a handful of rocks.

I love that it crushes ice into silk.

I love that I have never found a lump in my Myoplex.

....sigh

I love my VitaMix!!

I know they are expensive but you can find bargains on Ebay sometimes. It will

chop anything (even the wooden plunger is you don't have the lid on like you are

suppose to). My 12 yo son makes delicious fruit and vegie drinks.

I think I am going to go for the gusto and get the Waring blender. I

am tired of killing them. Although, we just decided we were going to

buy a new truck to pull the horse trailer, so cash is a little hard

to come by.
