Guest guest
Hi, I hope you guys don't mind that a Californian joined your group. I'm definitely interested in whole foods, etc. If you make my dinner roll recipe, you'll probably let me stay. J Garlic-Herb Dinner Rolls 1 cup water ** 2 T. butter, softened 1 egg 2-4 lg. cloves garlic, crushed (I use more, but mine is frozen) 3 1/2 cups whole wheat flour 2 T. sugar 1 1/4 t. salt 1/2 t. rosemary 1/4 t. each of thyme & basil 3 t. yeast Place all ingredients in your bread machine in the order listed. Select and start the Dough Cycle. Grease cake pan. With hands floured, divide dough into 12 or 15 pieces and shape into balls. Place in pan. Brush with butter. Cover; let rise 30 to 40 minutes or until double. Heat oven to 375*. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. **(I crush the rosemary and garlic in my VitaMix blender with the 1 cup water above.) This recipe is delicious! I've put together ingredients from different recipes to make this one. We use it for holidays (like Thanksgiving) and any time we want something other than regular whole wheat bread. ~Cheryl
Guest guest
Cheryl, Can this be rolled out for pizza dough? Sounds yummy. Ann Marie I don't mind a Californian, but you won't be able to relate if we start talking about Minnesota winter. > > I hope you guys don't mind that a Californian joined your group. Guest guest
Oh my, Ann Marie, using it for pizza dough sounds great! We make homemade whole wheat pizza dough, and I've never thought of it! Yes, I think it would be great! Weather, well, that is about the *only* thing that keeps me in California! And thanks for your vote to let me stay! I'll be quiet and won't talk much. Guest guest
Thanks, ! I found this group when I was looking for a group that would support my (diet) lifestyle. There weren't many to choose from! I have not been eating as well as I should lately, and I thought it would be helpful to join a group who discussed eating healthy foods. What I really wanted was a small group that was interested in reporting (or call it what you will) what we eat each day; I thought if we were accountable to someone (a support group) then we might make better diet choices. That's it in a nutshell. By the way, a traditional dessert (re: the original post) on our Thanksgiving table is Ambrosia Salad. This one comes from my mom so it is not quite as healthy, but still not as sweet as some desserts. Five ingredients: miniature marshmellows, pineapple, mandarin orange, coconut (I use unsweetened from the health food store), and just enough sour cream to moisten everything. I don't remember how much of everything. My mom says equal amounts of everything, but I use a lot more marshmellows than that. Some like it just after it's made, so that the marshmellows are still somewhat firm. And some, like me, like it after the juices and sour cream have soaked in. (This recipe is chilled, of course.) Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving! Cheryl Hi Cheryl, Your rolls do sound good! I wish I had time to bake some, but will have to wait till after Thanksgiving. Guest guest
Oh yeah, , plus I am an extreme organic gardener (most of my diet is organic, as well), and I have Weston A. Price's book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration and have watched the video based on this book. All that good healthy stuff. It's just that I have been too busy this year to stick to my ideals as I would like. We even milked a cow for over a year; she was a short horn whose newborn calf wouldn't suckle and died, so we taught her to let us milk her! I met my husband on a dairy in Colorado 22 years ago (he was partners with his uncle, but we walked away from that to start our own business, which failed, and then we ended back up on another dairy). I *love* raw milk, won't drink the other stuff except in espresso (my oldest daughter owns a coffee shop down the road). Most everything that your list describes is the way I want to live. We have forty acres (in California), but unfortunately, my husband has turned business executive, away from the living off our land, self-suffiency type lifestyle that I yearn for. The biggest problem I have with this lifestyle, though, is that I do not like to cook. Since my kids have become capable teenagers, for my husband and myself, I often make smoothies and soups, from fresh, organic fruits and veggies, in my VitaMix. I'd love to hear about your lifestyles. Are you all farmers? Perhaps we can chat after Thanksgiving. I really have to get back to work right now. Guest guest
Cheryl, You can make that recipe healthier by switching the marshmellows for some kind of nut... almond, pecan, walnut and switching the sour cream for whipped organic, raw cream or homemade yogurt. Or you can enjoy every bite just how it is. Guest guest
Cheryl, This now officially has become off topic... but there are a number of us on this group that homeschool too. Guest guest
Mississippi Market had a great dessert out last night for sampling. Minnesota apples and creme fraiche although they added a little brown sugar. I have had " Devonshire grapes " same thing but with red grapes- YUMMY! So creamy and good! Guest guest
Sour cream can be made out of raw milk also.
