Did you see the link for the nut milk bags on the Links page? /links "An Ebay Source For Nut Milk Bags"These are the Nut Milk bags I've been using…I find it very therapeutic to squeeze out the juice :-) Oh, but my hands get REALLY green and if you include beets (I don't because I need the fiber with my beets) your hands will turn beet red ;-) If I were going to squeeze the juice with beets in it, I would pull out my non-latex "demonstrator" gloves! I had no idea it could be done, I always thought you had to add water and drink as a smoothie. I ordered a pricey juicer but somehow the order didn't go through, now after seeing that video of the lady juicing and removing the pulp with the nut bag I'm not going to order a juicer but use my VM to juice, add the juice to a smoothie and clean only one simple machine, plus have juice AND smoothie for pulp the VM that basically cleans itself. Wow, the $$ I'll save on a juicer I'll put towards more vegetables.
Guest guest
A pair of spatula tongs, or a metal tortilla press, work great for keeping your hands from turning green...or red! I have a jelly strainer, which is a little rack that you hang your jelly or nut milk bag on-makes it much easier! http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=jelly+strainer & oe=UTF-8 & hl=en & client=sa\ fari & um=1 & ie=UTF-8 & tbm=shop & cid=18026951725319687186 & sa=X & ei=UB4JT5H-FeLx0gHPocX\ FAg & ved=0CE8Q8wIwAg > > > Thanks for the link on how to juice in the VM. Guest guest
I have my Mom's cone shaped jelly strainer. Has a wood thing that fits inside and you run it around and around to press the contents through the fine holes in the sides of the cone. Don't use it often, but now have a new use, should I choose. Thanks for the idea. Velda On 1/7/2012 8:41 PM, wrote: > A pair of spatula tongs, or a metal tortilla press, work great for keeping your hands from turning green...or red! Guest guest
Years ago I bought a 6 inch extra fine strainer at a moving sale and I have been using it to strain my almond milk. Because it is only 6 inches I can't strain the whole batch at one time without removing almond sediment from the strainer but it still works fine. I just force the milk through the strainer with a spatula. I find a small amount of sediment when I finish in the bottom of my container at the end. Cleanup is a breeze with this strainer too. While I haven't tried it for such I don't see why it wouldn't work for straining pulp from fruit and vegetables as well. What do all of you store your almond milk in? I had an original metal vitamix with a faucet on it, that my son now has. It came with a mesh bag and screw top with a flat metal press. You would place items like the seeds of a pomegranate in the mesh bag, fold the top of the bad down, place it in the bottom of the metal vitamix, attach the flat bottom to the screw top and screw the flat metal piece down against the fleshy seeds to get the juice out. Then use the faucet on the metal container to get the juice of the seeds to pour out. Worked very well. I'm not quite sure how you would now juice the pomegranate seeds now. My guess is that you then would have to purchase a mesh bag and then with some force by hand strain out the juice from the cracked seeds of the pomegranate done in my present 5200 vitamix. Suggestions appreciated. Might ask for that old metal vitamix back from my son and buy him a new one. Roslyn Zencker
Guest guest
LOL, lyn-the old metal Vitamix sure did have its charms and benefits! I love my new 5200, but had a serious relationship with my old stainless! I recommend my tortilla press method for squeezing juices-I bought a cheap metal tortilla press at a Mexican grocery store for 7 bucks-you can put your seeds, pulp, etc, in a nut milk bag and easily press it between the plates. I call it my " poor mans Norwalk " ! > > I find it very therapeutic to squeeze out the juice :-) Oh, but my hands get REALLY green and if you include beets (I don't because I need the fiber with my beets) your hands will turn beet red ;-) If I were going to squeeze the juice with beets in it, I would pull out my non-latex " demonstrator " gloves! > > ..................................previous message...................................................... > I had an original metal vitamix with a faucet on it, that my son now has. Guest guest
Hi Roslyn,I would love to see (in person) the juice press that you describe! (I've been doing Green Juices using Rene's method for a couple of months now) and it is pretty easy, but I'd like for it to be even easier... ;-)The Norwalk Juicer was the first on the market with this concept of pressing the juice out of the fiber, but at $2,500 a Norwalk Juicer is beyond many people's means:http://www.norwalkjuicers.com/model-275/The Norwalk is a two-staged juicer where one side makes the produce mush, and the other side presses the juice out of the mush.Another company has come up with only one portion of this two-step process (the press) The "Welles Press" aka the "People's Press"http://www.amazon.com/Welles-or-Peoples-Juice-Press/dp/B001ACDLX0But as you can see from the reviews, there are "issues" with this press, and for $400 it is still rather pricey. Additionally, you have to have a juicer or Vitamix to make the mush.I am working with an engineer, and we are in the research and development stage of trying to create a Juice Press that is significantly less expensive than the People's Press, and hopefully much easier to operate.
