Seeing the movie again, I was more aware of the complexity,

beauty and rhythms in the film. It's powerful. I could have used

more positive intormation about hope and good news but I

suppose the point of the film is to help people realize how bad it

actually is out there.

Likewise, we really enjoyed the panel discussion with the

director and RONNIE CUMMINGS director of the Organic

Consumers Association, and MARK RICHIE director of the IATP.

it was fabulous and I hope many of you were there to hear it. We

followed the group over to the Kitty Kat Klub for a reception later

and that was nice too. A great place to meet and greet.

There were dozens of memorable facts and lots of information

handed out by the panel. One choice gem from Ronnie was a

helpful talking point for when you are with people who say they'd

like to eat better but can't afford it. He says that we've been

bamboozled by propaganda about the concept of " CHEAP

FOOD " . He said that back in the 50's people in the US spent

about 26% of their income on food, now it's less than 11%.

Italians, a very healthy country and one filled with vital people, to

this day spend 29% of their money on food. So in other words,

you CAN make good food choices, eat the best there is, and still

stay below that old figure (In addition, some organic food is

cheaper than others). He also gave the grim medical statistics

about how the US has fallen to the LEAST HEALTHY of the

industrialized countries, partially due to our bad food and the

toxins created from modern agriculture.

Mark felt that it's really important to " vote " with our food and

consumer choices but stlll that will probably not be enough to

convince government to stop aiding and abetting the corporate

food cartels. What we must now do is GET MORE POLITICAL.

People in power will not willingly let go of that power, that's

obvious. Getting political means working on the right election

campaigns (Mark revealed that he will be running for Secretary of

State next year!!!), means we need to get the petitions and action

group programs going and take part in demonstrations and

protests. I agree that I think he's right.

It's good that JERRY BRUNETTI is coming next week. There is

perhaps no better example of a person that can help us get our

political wrath going!

I've got a CD copy of " The Future of Food " that I will be willing to

lend to anyone who wants to see it. I'll create a sign-up sheet.

Will,

I was not able to make it last night, but would love to see it. Maybe you could

send it along with the MOM's delivery to 's this Wednesday???

(Anything to avoid having me park my big Denali in your alley! Right?)
