Guest guest
This is going to be great fun! I'm still working on getting these duck eggs here for those that want them. I've had tremendous interest from TFMN. Here's more information from the family who live in Central WI....I'll try to get the first shipment in here next week and will let you know before they arrive. We are working out transportation now! Two friends here have tried them and they were wild over them. Will ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Production: Today we had 16 eggs! Welsh Harlequins lay 240 to 330 eggs a year. Right now I could supply you with 6 dozen eggs a week, which I sell as a half carton of 6 eggs with a photo label of my ducks on top. The eggs range in size from large to x-large and they will get bigger as the ducks get older. Eventually x-large to jumbo. The Welsh Harlequin breed was developed to be an egg laying breed averaging 250 eggs per year, which is pretty much one egg per day until they either set or are forced to molt, which I like to do in the hottest days of the summer. They are a critically endangered breed, according to the ALBC, and I will need to use some of my eggs to raise more ducks in March and April. Price: I have been struggling with this issue for some time. Raising organic ducks is very labor intense and expensive and I'm doing it on a small scale. To make a long story short, I would like to start at $4/ HALF dozen ($8 /dozen). I estimate that $6/ dozen would cover the cost of their feed. Duck eggs are a much richer and denser product than chicken eggs, just as duck meat is a much denser and richer meat than chicken. I've attached a photo of one of my Welsh Harlequin females named Hildegaard von Bingen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
