Dear Louis,

An additional thank you for your work with our lists. These lists are so

helpful to so many. And thank you also for the wealth of information you

have taken the time to archive on the parenting site.

Thank you, Louis, for the reminder to look back and see how far we have

come! Many of us have made it this far because of the time and effort you

put towards this list. This has been my life line.

Enjoy your weekend.

So what are you all doing this week for exercise with Thanksgivingcoming up?

Hi ,

I'm still thinking on what I want to do. I want to do a high calorie burn workout, but I know I will be working out in the morning on that day so I won't have a lot of energy. Of course I could do a long cardio workout that evening after all the food stuff is over and really burn some calories. I was thinking also of doing either an endurance weight workout. Those types of workouts always make me feel worked out at the end. I'm still thinking.........

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your wife!!

Well, today was more weighted work, but I think the rest of the week will be dedicated more to cardio and yoga to burn off more calories and stress!

Hi ,

I'm not sure what I'm going to do on Thanksgiving day.

I guess it depends on my energy level. I'm not sure

if I should do an intense cardio, a strength day or a

circuit workout. Maybe I'll do Cathe's Body Max - a

little of everything. I should do FIRM Hare since back

in 98 that was my first FIRM and I did it on

Thanksgiving. That is the tape that got me hooked on

weights and got me more seriously into video exercise.

Before that infamous day I had a very modest

collection of workout videos (they fit on one shelf in

my entertainment center as opposed to several drawers

and storage boxes and two DVD binders today. I bet my

DH wishes I never tried that workout! LOL!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I'm going to get up early and exercise with Gilad. Burn some fat then

eat lightly until dinner. I love to try a little of everything but not

to get stuffed. Have to leave room for pumpkin pie. My mother usually

sends us home with leftovers:)

Ah, the joy of having a preset rotation :).

I'm doing Power 90 Sweat 1-2 Thursday morning - a morning workout, ugh, that is a struggle for me at least it's cardio in the A.M.

Thanks for the NYT tips Sara. I was brining my birds today and read our FILES

section on it

one more time. I found about 5 contradictions in the text, none too serious, but

I

corrected them. I'm a cook that uses pinches, dabs, shakes and lots of

seat-of-the-pants

cooking but I realize that lots of people need exacting directions. We get it

all the time in

the beef business, people WANT to know " how many minutes do I cook your steak on

each

side? " .

The Thanksgiving Dinner has lots of pressure built-in because there are numerous

hot

and fragile dishes that must come together at the exact moment everyone sits at

the table,

so I think some precision is in order. (It helps if all the adults have had some

WINE during

that last 30 min before dining!).

I'm allowing 3 hours for my 18# bird and 2 hours for my 12# bird. This is

starting at 375

for 45 min (breast down), flipping and then finishing at 325. I'm allowing 30

min for the

" rest " period. I'm more convinced than ever that stuffing the bird causes you to

over-cook

the outer surface of the bird to get the dressing hot enough. I'm shooting for

160 internal

temperature, although some books have you go to 165. Either is safe, I just

don't like to

over-cook meat unnecessarily.

Good luck cooks!

Hi

I learned a way to cook and turkey (or chicken) that I love from the

lady who owns the stallions in Lexington, KY where I was breeding my

mares. Mix equal amount of worsh. sauce and melted butter and baste

bird with it (use it liberally). You can stuff the bird if you want.

Put bird in a large paper bag (big enough to not be touching on top

and so you can staple closed.

I cook it at about 350 degrees until done. I put the bird in the bag

on a rack in the pan so it doesn't sit right on the pan.

When you open the bag once it's done you have a crispy skinned bird

that is incredibly moist. The worsh. sauce taste does not come out, I

don't know what it does but the flavor is so good. When done, the bag

is a bit crisp but it has never burned.

There is a bunch of drippings in the bottom of the bag and makes a

mess opening it up I admit, but it makes a great sauce. I just use

organic corn starch and water with sea salt and that's it.

Well, I used the brining recipe in the FILES section and I made my

best meal ever! Took the advice about leaving the stuffing out of the

bird and it worked great! I gots loads more very tasty gravy that

could be poured over the stuffing so that made up for any dryness.

So far, I saved my brine. If I do it this weekend, do you think I can

use that mixture again on a chicken? I wouldn't think any critters

could live in that salty mixture...

Toss out the brine. Critters can live in it. Try buying sun-dried [solar]

extra coarse salt which is just untreated rock salt. I use it instead of sea

salt. That makes brining pretty cheap. June

Good call! I agree 100%.

Not only is it a good media for growth, it's possible that the salt draws out

some toxins from

the meat that you want to ditch. I spread mine over a huge area of the yard. A

bit of salt,

widely spread, is actually a good soil stimulant in many cases.

HAIN makes a good cheap seasalt too, it comes in the round cardboard containers.

That's

what I used.

I'd start with the most recent, actually. There was some imagery with compulsion

foods (works really well for foods you might be exposed to over the holidays

that you wouldn't even dream of eating the rest of the year). It was kind of

fun--almost more of a game than a guided journey....

I searched for " holiday " on the web site with all the downloads

(http://personallifemedia.com/podcasts/216-inside-out-weight-loss) and came up

with #57. It might also be worth looking for podcasts in late November through

January in past years.

And I suppose we can share our own tips. :-) Like, just because you eat it once

a year, doesn't mean you have to eat a year's worth....

Thanksgiving is next week. I know I listened to some Holiday/Thanksgiving theme

shows in the past, but now I can't find those episodes. Can anyone help?

The best Thanksgiving tip I have is to remember that I can eat any of the foods

served there any time I want. If something is just really good I can make it at

home later or buy it. I can always ask for the recipe if I want " Aunt Sue's

Sweet Potato Pie " instead of just a generic pie. If I can make it at home

anytime I want it, I don't have to eat past full to get it all in today.

Another favorite tip I like to use at " all you can eat " restaurants or anyplace

a large variety of food is offered: Take a walk through just to see what all is

there, don't take your plate. Think about all the different foods that are

offered. Then walk away for a few minutes. Without all that food in front of

you, what were the best things offered? if you could only put 3 items on your

plate what would be the best tasting ones? which ones would feel best on your

tummy? Then go back and get the best things at the table. For me, I don't

really care for the turkey, and I usually don't want the mashed potatoes or the

green beans. My favorite things served at Thanksgiving are my mom's cranberry

salad and my dad's dressing; sometimes I want the sweet potatoes or some of the

deserts. Today thinking about what could be available at Thanksgiving I would

really like a big green salad to go with that.

If we celebrate at my in-laws I would just really prefer not to eat. So I try

to bring something that I like (if they will let me, some people are touchy

about that), and honor myself by keeping busy fussing over my children and

fetch-and-carry for older family members. Then no one notices that I didn't

bother to eat much or anything. I will eat before I leave home and/or when I

get home. This is how I keep from overeating when the food isn't good. I

don't know why, but I will get food expecting it to taste a certain way and when

it doesn't I will just keep eating. . .like maybe in a bite or two the flavor

will change. ..sounds crazy to write it. (I so love the pre-do for these

situations)

This year we are having Thanksgiving at my house. Anyone coming to Thanksgiving

at my house will be asked to bring their FAVORITE Thanksgiving dish. I will

make a ham (because no one in my house really likes the turkey that much). Then

I will ask my dh and each of my kids what their FAVORITE T-giving food is. I

only make the things that get voted favorites. That really means that we have

ham, sweet potatoes, and dressing. Plus I ask my mom to bring her cranberry

salad. Who knows what my mil will bring. Anything else can be purchased from

the store already made or very close to, I only make the non generic favorites.

Mrs. can make the pumpkin pie. One year we just made the sides and

didn't even bother with a ham or turkey. My in-laws complained, but everyone

else had a great time. No one went home hungry. I have to keep reminding

myself that I do Thanksgiving at my house because I enjoy it. I am not doing it

to impress my mil (cause that just isn't going to happen).
