had encopresis(which is what I think you are going thru) when she was

younger. They hold it in because they know its going to hurt and it just makes

it worse. Does she have staining on her undies? Try using miralax mixed with

food or drink. It is safe to use and will help her go easier.

constipation question

Anyone have any suggestions for getting a kid not to hold it in when they

are already constipated? Dd is absorbing her food much better now, but the

poopies are much harder. After experiencing one particularly painful

poopie, she now crosses her legs and holds in the poop which of course makes

it worse. I sit her on the toilet, but she still holds it in. It comes

down to screaming and crying when she cannot hold it in anymore, but I am

trying to figure a way to get her to go before that point.

Peace,

We are experiencing the encopresis right now and have since he was

young. is twenty one. He is still to a great extent

incontinent. His has accidents frquently when he is upset. He is on

a toileting schedule. He is on Miralax to keep him from becoming

incontinent. Don't know if that helps. Miralax keeps the stools soft

enough that it doesn't hurt.

Couple of things helped us IMMENSLY! Bite Size frosted mini wheats, dry or

with Almond milk. (less " binding than milk especially if there is even a

mild celiac condition and more benefits. Plum Juice. they even make a

double fiber plum juice now. Plum is much easier than prune to get your

kids to drink.. kind of a flavor like apple and grape. Almost every store I

have been to it is on one of the top two shelves at the front of the juice

isle. Also- they make those individualy wrapped prunes now - those are

treated like a really special treat - and given once a day for really good

deeds. (If really " plugged up " avt like you are sneaking in a few extra

because she did an AMAZING job with ________ - " Silly how a wrapped up

prune can be such a wonderful tool in so many areas. helping " unplug "

teaching healthier eating - over treating with candy - enforcing good

behaviors etc etc etc

Last but not least. We sang the itsy bitsy spider song on the pot. 1 - it

takes her mind off the fear of the pain and allows her muscles to relax and

we do all the EXAGGERATED motions with it so helps move stuff around and get

it going, qand with the down comes the rain, we do lite fingers down from

her head to her toes, think that helps muscle and or sensory wise. We

started with 5-6 rounds - got down to one round after about 6 months - and

now it is very rare that we need it - maybe once or twice this last year.

Hi,

Like many, we have been dealing with constipation all of Ambers life. We had

a friend, who is a naturopath review her and she recommended LSA (LSA is a

blend of certified organic finely ground flax seed meal, sunflower seed and

almonds.) . This has worked a treat, all of use it now. I make our own bread

and put LSA in it, just a subtle warning add to much and you have to deal

with a flatulent family! You might also want to consider a homeopathic

ProBiotic?

Hi,

For Rodrigo (3 years and almost 6 months) it's orange juice. As long as he

drinks orange juice during the day he goes without problems.

We buy oranges and the juice is then added into a yoghurt or given as a drink,

with the yoghurt there's a greater probability that he will have it all. If the

juice is too sour he won't drink it, so we put it in the yoghurt.

Since he has been having orange juice, it doesn't hurt and the worst part is

that we barely make it to the toilet on time!!! He still wears nappies, but we

sit him on the toilet because it's a bit easier on him than letting him go in

the nappy. So now he pushes once and when we get to the toilet... he's done!!

It's been really great for him because we have tried A LOT!!!

We've used glycerine suppositories, a sugary maltose to add to his milk (since

he was 2 months old), a special powder given by his pediatrician that we add to

his food or desert (polytheylene glycol), the thermometer, and I even planted a

special plant in my house that is always used for helping babies with

constipation. So you see that orange juice is quite the miracle for us!

I still keep some baby laxatives (fleet brand) close at hand in cases when he

doesn't have orange juice and doesn't go at least once in a day (now he goes

twice a day), because that usually generates a lot of hurt.

Hope you can find something that will help you in this horrible situation.

Pamela.
