I infuse dried calendula petals in a big mason jar, covered with oil, and

place in a sunny window.

I would like to infuse my own calendula & chamomille oils. I have seen

recipes where they say to use dry flowers but when I asked another company,

they said to use only the fresh flowers to infuse with oil.

Has anyone done any calendula or chamomille oils? They are very expensive

to buy but one source said it can be done at home using dry flowers.

I keep it in the oil until the oil turns a bright yellow. If I'm doing it

during the winter, when the sun's rays are not warm enough, I place the

mason jar in a pot of water on top of the stove on low temps.

No, there is no scent, you will have to add that separately when you are

making whatever it is you are making! And no, I've never tried it with

chamomile flowers - I would think it would be harder to know when the oil

was infused because the flowers are white.

Hi ,

How long do you keep it in the oil? Did it retain the scent? Have you

tried this with dry Chamomille flowers?

Thanks - belle

belle,

I infuse calendula oil by putting a couple of cups of dried flowers

in a glass (pyrex) double-boiler; I add extra virgin olive oil and

cover the flowers by a couple of inches. I heat this for 3 hours on a

simmer-make sure only the water in the bottom pan is simmering, not

the oil in the top pan. Stir the flowers now & then. It smells

fantastic! When done, I strain it twice through cheesecloth & store

in a glass jar with a tightly sealed lid in a cool dark place.

Good luck!

Thanks - That was very helpful

The info I got is similar. Fill a double boiler with calendula flowers and

cover with oil. Heat for 4 hours at 120 - 150 degrees farenheit. Do not

heat over 150 degrees. Strain in a cheesecloth..

Make sure thou that the oil you are using has a long shelf life. Best to

you...

>You may also infuse them in a crockpot with your oils~ same way as

Ellen<

yes, that is how I do it, I put both calendula and chamomile in the

crockpot and let it cook on low. Whenever I do this my husband

thinks I am baking a kuchen or something cause he loves the smell.
