Marcelle, are you talking about Everclear, the alcohol?

Would a 91% alcohol work?  I didn't think you could sell an item with

alcohol in it.  (sorry if I'm assuming too much) just curious?

Don't know the ruling on that. I checked the labels

on all the body splashes in a local shop. All had

alcohol at the top of the list. Most were denatured

alcohol.

Someone else is going to have to rule on this

question, though. I am not the expert. My next

question is: What is everyone else using in their body

splashes if not alcohol?

Splashes, or Eau Fraiche are comprised of 1 to 3 per-cent fragrance oil.

This would roughly translate to about 5-15 drops fragrance or essential oils

per ounce of base.

Here is a recipe:

Splash/Eau Fraiche

2 oz. grain or denatured alcohol

2 oz. distilled water

1 tsp. glycerine (acts as a fixative for the scent)

50 drops fragrance/essential oil blend

Dissolve the oils in the alcohol first, then add the water very gradually

to

avoid clouding the mixture. If the mixture clouds anyway, let it stand for

several hours and if still cloudy, add very gradually more denatured alcohol

until it clears. Citrusy and light floral scents work best for these

mixtures.

Hope this helps!

Denatured alcohol is not the same thing as Everclear, Vodka or Rum. It has

been most people's understanding on this list and others, that selling

toiletry or soap products made with Everclear, Vodka, Rum or any other liquor

is illegal.

How does that work out for you? (the witch hazel that is)

I'm interested in trying that as well as the alcohol.

Witch hazel is basically an extract, a witch hazel leaf tincutre, meade from

alcohol, leaf matter and water...

Essentially the same thing.

Hi Peggy:

The witch hazel is fine for splashes, but is too weak to emulsify perfume

oils by itself. You can make " steeped " colognes using witch hazel and dried

fragrant herbs. I will forward some recipes in a moment...

Super, I can hardly wait to see them. I love the

body sprays for after bath, but the alcohol is usually too

harsh on my sensitive skin so when you said witch hazel

I thought that might be the answer!

thanks :)
