Awesome night

Hey guys. I was just looking on my facebook, and realized this might be a

positive post for you. It was this summer...towards the end of baseball season,

and turned out to be one of the best nights of my life, as well as Austin's.

Yes, he plays in regular league.

The players slung their arms over his shoulders, high five'd him, cheered him on

as they walked him to the mound...delivered to a dream by his friends, team

mates. He was left standing there with Sammy, the best pitcher in the league,

and with a few last words, Sammy fell back to Short Stop. He was in the

spotlight, the crowd cheering, cameras flashing, as he wound up for that first

pitch...a few strikes, a few hits, and lots of balls, that sweet 13yr old

pitched his heart and soul out. The opposing team, the " enemy " , batting

patiently, while their coaches encouraged the pitcher. Both sides of supporters

going wild with each wild pitch. Not many dry eyes among the adults, a few wet

ones among the players...The game was officially over, both teams, coaches, and

entire crowd, even from other fields, stayed late to watch one boy live that

dream. Austin pitched tonight, a regular kid, die hard baseball player, regular

right fielder who got a solid hit tonight, and just happens to have Down

Syndrome. My son. I'm used to having a son on the pitching mound, just not that

one. He was presented a game ball from each team, signed, and forever cherished.

What a night. Small town baseball. Life. It's what it's all about.
