The Play Lab will be staffed by Dr. Myers from UMW and DeCou, LPC, M.Ed. from Exceptional Support Services in Fredericksburg. The Play Lab will be held at Helping Hands Pediatric Occupational Therapy in Fredericksburg. Each semester the Play Lab class is held, UMW students will be focusing on a different theme and different research-based interventions, geared to meet a variety of the special needs related to children with developmental disabilities. This fall the theme is " Movement and Manners " and is geared toward children ages 3-12. We will be working on sensory skills, behavior skills and appropriate social skills as part of this Play Lab. We are looking for children with diagnoses such as: Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Delay, ADHD, and Sensory Processing Disorders. We invite you to submit an application for your child to participate in this fall's Play Lab by Friday, September 10, 2010. Space will be limited and applications will be reviewed by a committee. Please review the list below to determine if your child/family meets the criteria for participation. Feel free to contact us with any questions at nmyers@.... Criteria: Child ages 3-12 with a diagnosis of developmental disability (ID, ASD, SPD, ADHD, etc.) Child available for Play Lab on Mondays from October 18-November 15th. 6:00-7:15 p.m. Copy of I.E.P and application received by September 10, 2010. Parent must be available for Play Lab Parent Training on Monday, November 22nd. Parent must agree to allow for child to be videotaped/photographed for instructional and marketing purposes. Tuition payment of $150.00 must be received by September 24, 2010 in order to participate. (Depending on grant funding, scholarships may be available for families with financial need).
