Guest guest
I have two wonderful cats I love very much and would like to incorporate some toiletrie recipes for them as well! Anyone know of any good recipes? Both of them have dandruff. I'd also like to add some sort of EO to their cat litter to help keep it more bacteria and odor free. I don't know what cats are allergic to in this area or what they would not like so any info at all would be great. Feel free to email personally if it will be to off topic for this list. jprocks1@... Guest guest
I wouldn't use any eo's for your cats, period. Cats systems are a little different-they basically won't secrete things like we do, so a tiny bit of something will, literally, be overkill for them. A humorous not to the above (and no, I didn't kill the cat, just nearly scared myself to death). I woke up one night with a stomach ache. Wandered into the bathroom, found the peppermint eo, got back in bed, took the cap off the bottle and inhaled deeply a few times to calm my stomach. Guess I nearly fell asleep with the bottle held upright in my hand. The cat wandered over to see what I had and took a big sniff. Next thing I know is there's this whirling dervish on the bed, in midair, all over the place-he's sneezing and snorking and going nuts. I finally grabbed him and sniffed-he hadn't even gotten any oil on him, just the smell was enough to set him off. Don't try this on your cat on purpose-I was really worried for a while. In retrospect, I pictured having to call the vet in the middle of the night with an " essential oil emergency " . Would have been an interesting phone call! Michele H. PLEASE don't use any eo's on or for your cats....they can't metabolize them and you cause permanent liver damage. cats and eo's are a definite no-no. Guest guest
I put baking soda in with my cat litter and it seems to help neutralize odor. Heidi
Guest guest
Hi Marge Is that just cats or does that include dogs and horses? I wasn't sure if this would be too much for a cat as well. I was thinking of buying a diffuser but I just adopted a cat (actually she adopted me!) and I wouldn't want to do anything to hurt her. Guest guest
Laurie, Be very careful while diffusing oils in any manner. Air the room out well… If you have a cat or allergic dog (such as mine).. I know birds can be very sensitive also to airborne scent… I just would not recommend it. Guest guest
Hi Laurie, As far as I understand the big problem with cats is that they are very clean and are always licking their fur, so if you put anything on their fur they will ingest it. I don't know if nebulised oils would cause a problem though. Kat > Does this include dispersing eo's through a nebulizer diffuser into > the air throughout the apartment? Just my two cents worth - I have three cats and use nebulizers all the time with no problems. Though my kitties don't sit near the nebulizers I have never noticed any of them avoiding those rooms altogether either. Vet says its okay too. ----------------------- 's Garden - Premium essentials & more!! http://www.vsgarden.com -----------------------
Guest guest
Thanks so much. It's reassuring to know that your vet said it was okay. I think I might wait until she's a bit older though because she's still a kitten and very, very curious about everything in my apartment! Wouldn't want her knocking it over or trying to eat it. :>) Laurie B. > <As far as I understand the big problem with cats is that they <are very > clean...I don't know if nebulised oils would <cause a problem... > > Just my two cents worth - I have three cats and use nebulizers all the > time with no problems.
