SFA's (sustainable farm assoc) first farm tour of the year is scheduled for Sat.

April 9 at

Gardens Galore Greenhouse & Herb Farm in Winsted with Schmidt, master

gardener,

herbalist and farmer.

10:00 coffee, meet & greet

10:30 green house tour

12:00 potluck lunch

12:45-2:45 lecture/seminar. will talk about techniques for successfully

germinating

perennials as well as what particular weeds tell you about your soil, inclulding

open Q & A

time about such subjects as herbal insect control, greenhouse practices,

growing/

marketing herloom tomatoes and more.

The Schmidt's grow and market a wide variet of herbs, heirloom tomatoes and

other

veggies. Their greenhouses are used not only to start their own plants, but

also for a

flourishing business in bedding plants for commercial plantings and farmers

markets.

is building on her education in horticulture and is studying to become a

practitioner

of herbal medicine.

Due to space limitations this event is limited to 30 people, accepted on a first

come basis.
