This is the company that I called and they said that the coconut flakes they sell here:http://www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com/category/coconut-products-coconut-flakes-chips.phpare the same flakes they use to make their own coconut butter:http://www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com/category/coconut-products-coconut-spread.php (they call it coconut spread)SO, I assume it is a safe bet that if you buy this brand, you are going to be able to make the coconut butter without running into the problems that others have with flakes that are devoid of enough fat to work (like Bob's Red Mill and I don't know what others).I FINALLY got a call back from Tropical Traditions and theirs might work too, but until I hear from someone that has purchased from them and successfully made coconut butter, I'm not going to promote that as an option.

I was going to order from Country Life in the next couple of weeks and I was wondering if this is what you guys recommend to order.

040367 Coconut Chips for $10.05

I was going to try to make the coconut butter but I want to make sure someone had tried these before I ordered it. I think this is what was recommended in the link.

Thanx,

Penny

I just ordered some from tropical traditions. Never heard of that site before,

so thanks for recommending it, Lea Ann. I found their prices to be the best.

The other sites were outrageous for their shipping charges. Once it arrives

I'll let y'all know how it works.

The ones I used were the ones from Country Life and they did NOT work!

Could age make a difference? I have had them for a while to put in my crockpot

granola.

Yesterday I tried again with a bag of Woodstock farms coconut and it did better,

but not good enough to make me think this is a treat that people really prize. I

put some in this morning's smoothie.

We love Wilderness Family's coconut oil. My buying club buys a dozen gallons at

a time! If I had known I would have ordered the spread and or chips with our

last order to see what everyone is enjoying so much.

I have some of the shredded coconut from Tropical

Traditions. I'll try and make some coconut butter this weekend. Can I use my

small container and use just 2 cups of coconut?

Hi Penny,I shared the link from a blog, but it was not my blog.  I have not tried this brand myself.  She just said she had good luck with them.  I know that Wilderness Family Naturals has wonderful products, but can be expensive.  Still much cheaper than buying the coconut butter already made though!  (Lea Ann talked to them, and found that they are a good source.)

Good luck with whatever you end up with.On Thu, Oct 6, 2011 at 9:12 AM, Penny <penbate@...> wrote:

Hi - I just got my Vitamix yesterday and coconut butter was one of the first

things I've tried. I got the " Let's do organic " brand of flakes in my natural

foods section of my grocery store (Shaws in NH) and it worked great!!
