I'm not sure what you mean by " reaching the blades? "   Everything reaches the blades, that's why it's all blended up. I haven't had much luck w/ ice-cream yet, so I usuallly end up w/ smoothies. But they're mixed and everything has blended. the vortex and the tamper bring the stuff on top to the bottom.

Dd and I love Rocky Road ice cream, but I would love to make a healthier version. Below is my first attempt and it was very good, but runny. (Our VM is new to us and I'm still a little afraid of ruining it. I think more ice (or better-- frozen milk) would have thickened it up. I've made some recipes using ice cubes and while it did get the four mounds, it also had teeny chunks of ice and I don't want that in my ice cream;o)

Does anyone want to try it and see if they can make it more ice cream-like?

Rocky Road Ice Cream

Attempt #1 10/6/11:

(I even compared this side by side with a bit of mostly melted Rocky Road ice cream. I liked the banana version better—not so sweet—but I still prefer something more solid.)

½ cup cream

2 T. Hershey's Special Dark cocoa

¾ t. vanilla

Few drops (maybe 1/8 t.?) stevia glycerite

1 frozen banana, in chunks

2 ice cubes

Blend the cream, cocoa, vanilla and stevia. I wanted to make whipped cream, but I think ½ cup wasn't enough to really reach the blades or something. Add the banana and ice and blend with the tamper.

Runny, but good.

I think I will next try more ice… but milk cubes rather than water cubes.

Maybe I just need to double the batch so the cream reaches the blades better?

Lea Ann recommends a 3:1 ratio of liquids to ice for ice cream, I believe. That

should help!

Oops, meant ice to liquids. i.e. 3 times as much ice as liquids.
