my name is catherine tierney and i got on the list because i was

looking to share dairy pickups at mvv farm. i just moved here from

milwaukee last week and the dairy i went to there was only 1/2 hour

away, so the drive to mvv farm is twice as far. btw, i picked up

milk from mom's today and found a source for fresh farm eggs at

clancey's.

anyway, will wanted me to post a little about myself so here goes:

i started studying nutrition in high school (i'm 56 so that was a

while ago!!) because i noticed a direct link between the food i ate

and how i felt. in 1972 i became a lacto-vegetarian and followed

ayurvedic recommendations. i also became a registered dietitian in

1993 (but didn't feel i learned much from school).

in aug 2002 i was diagnosed with stage 1 anal cancer, so was lucky

to catch it early. but i was in shock because i thought i was eating

very healthy--no junk food for me; all organic stuff and freshly

cooked every day, etc. of course, i immediately looked at my diet

and decided to try something different. btw, all i had was a little

surgery to remove the cancer.

friends around me thought i was too acid and that's why i got caner,

so a raw vegan diet was supposed to be the answer to make me more

alkaline. i tried it for about 9 months and started to crave sweets,

especially chocolate, something i never had before.

for some reason i thought this might have to do with the fats in my

diet, which at the time was purely olive oil. i researched about

fats on the internet and found out about mary enig, sally fallon and

weston price. i bought " nourishing traditions " and read price's book

from the library. from this information i decided my diet was

lacking in animal fat, so i ate some ghee (clarified butter) and

right away the sugar craving went away. so i knew i was on to

something.

then a friend referred me to read " we want to live " by aajonus

vonderplanitz. a few of her friends had been following his advice

for 3 or more years and had great improvements in health, so i

bought the book and read it in one day. this was in june of 2003.

aajonus has what he calls a " primal diet " and it is based on his own

research of over 30 years. in the book he relates how he saved his

son's life (who was in a coma from a car accident) and also how he

cured himself of several incurable diseases. when he was 20 years

old, the doctors had told aajonus he would die in six months. he is

now 57 years old and extremely healthy. i was impressed by those

results as well as the four other people i talked to who had been on

the diet.

right away i also bought his second book " the recipe for living

without disease " because it is much more detailed than his first

book and gave exact guidelines which i began following mid-july,

2003.

i had a consult with aajonus when he came to chicago in may 2004. i

felt he was the first person to really pinpoint what i need to do to

heal myself. he tailored a program for me based on my particular

health issues, and i must say i'm feeling quite a lot stronger.

for example, yesterday i was out picking and shoveling at the ice on

the driveway and sidewalks for 3 hours. it was back-breaking work

and i knew my back would bother me later. it sure did!!! every time

i bent over even a little bit, it would spasm and be very painful.

yet, in spite of all the pain last night, this morning i was fine.

no more back pain. in the past, something like that would keep me in

a lot of pain for several days.

sorry this is so long. hope it's helpful

catherine
