It SICKENS me how uneducated the medical community is about nutrition! My mother in law is having her colon removed today (against MASSIVE protest from me) because the docs have "tried 'everything') for over a year to get rid of her chronic digestive issues. Unfortunately, and MIND BOGGLINGLY, the "everything" has NOT included any dietary changes!! They removed part of her colon last year, and brought her lasagna and salad 5 hours after surgery, and told her she could eat what she wanted. Needless to say she DID, and has continued to get sicker and sicker, and the only things the docs have done is keep pumping her full of meds! NOT ONE doc has suggested a bland or light diet, allergy testing, or trying a nutritional approach. The same thing happened to me years ago when I was seen at top hospitals and universities for

my chronic stomach issues-was given loads of pills, but ZERO advice on nutrition-actually was laughed at for suggesting that what I was eating could be causing it! I took matters into my own hands, figured out my allergies, and started eating a healthy, non processed diet, and my issues cleared up completely. Sadly, my mother in law and that side of the family are firm believers in the almighty docs, so they are letting them slice out her colon this morning without even trying a nutritional approach. Sorry for the soapbox, but I am OUTRAGED by this!! (this is actually ex mother in law, but we are all still close...sadly though, it isn't my place to intervene, although I have tried)

Interesting, . I also have hemochromatosis, so I have to severely limit iron-I haven't run across anyone else in my groups ever who has heard of it, lol! I also have food allergies, and have to limit foods rich in salicylates, amines, calcium and potassium. Being a vegetarian, none of those are easy to avoid, lol!

Interestingly enough I have had the same problem. I was recently diagnosed with

gastroparesis. My stomach is completely paralyzed. In a matter of 2 month's I

have lost 47 pounds now weighing 117 at 5'9. Once they diagnosed me and started

my meds I was told I could now eat whatever I want. NOT TRUE. I got sicker and

only through my own research learned that eating anything with this dx is FAR

from true. In fact as severe as my particular case is, only liquids is

recommended for quite some time. This is why i am finally going to order a

Vitamix. Im so malnourished right now I cant even walk alone. It saddens me

(especially with no insurance cause I am unable to work) the amount of money

we've spent on doctors. What has the world come to when one must do their own

research just to survive as dr's literally sent me home to die.

I have gastroparesis!!! I was diagnosed about 10 years ago. When I was acutely ill, I love 17 pounds in the first 3 weeks. It took me a full 6 months to recover to the point I was fairly normal. Now I am normal more of the time but I have occasional flareups which last 1-5 days and then it will go back away. I got gastroparesis from influenza. The gastro doctor said that the virus settled in the nerves of my stomach and damaged them. When I was acutely ill, I was taking Reglan 4 times a day (LIQUID Reglan! I couldn’t even tolerate the pills!) After that initial 3 weeks where I didn’t eat anything at all, I only drank gatorade and beef broth, I was on thinned puddings and thinned yogurt for another 3 months, and then the last 3 months I was on pureed foods that were thinned (and yes, I did have a Vita-Mix then!).

I very much sympathize with you.

, remember I said I had ulcerative colitis well, I went to the vitamin shoppe after the medication from the doctor didn't work. I got some medicine that was for inflammation of the intestinal system (actually listed IBS)

And in three days, the colitus was gone. It has medicine in it to reduce inflammation and help digestion. If you're interested and think it will help It's called InflamericZyme and vitamin shoppe carries it , they can be

Found on line.

P.s. They wanted to do a colonoscopy without keeping an eye on my blood sugar which goes low, I refused.

I agree with you how doctors are not trained in nutrition and surprisingly keeps the pharmaceutical companies very rich. Each time I have been to the doctor not one has ever mentioned my diet. From: Old and Forgotten <busresponsible@...> Sent: Thursday, 22 September 2011, 0:15Subject: Re:

THanks, -I have heard of that before...I believe it contains enzymes, which

are amazing for people with digestive issues. I have been suggesting to my

mother in law for over a year that she try something like that, but the docs had

her on so many meds that she was afraid to add anything that wasn't prescription

poison! Sadly, I just had the call that she is out of surgery, colon removed,

permanent colostomy. So sad that it came to this, all because the docs are too

ignorant to think that food can cause illness!

You're welcome, I am so sorry this has happened. I'm having very little trust in doctors now a days. It seems like if we learn what to eat and what not to eat-healing foods and herbs we are a lot better off. Sometimes I wonder

What I'm paying for hospitalization for especially when I find things that work faster and better than their prescriptions. Oh, well, guess I need it if I have to get stitches.lol Have had more luck with natural remedies than

Than I have had with doctors but, I'm probably off the wall here.lol

When I was diagnosed with leukemia years ago, the docs told me to get my affairs in order, and pretty much wrote me off as a gonner! I took matters into my own hands and healed myself, without their nasty medications and poisons. The more docs I saw, the sicker I got, primarily from the ever increasing of side effect laden swill they gave me to MASK symptoms, rather than to try to find an underlying cause for my issues. I quite literally saved my own life simply by changing what I ate! I have NO use for doctors these days, and only go when completely necessary for routine procedures and to keep in good graces so I can get my thyroid meds refilled-I would quickly turn to a home remedy for most things people rush off to a doctor for. From: Old and Forgotten <busresponsible@...>Subject: Re: Re: doctors and nutrition Date: Wednesday, September 21, 2011, 8:15 PM

My dr. put me on ide a “mild diuretic†to help regulate my blood pressure. The following year I had low sodium. So they sent me for test on my lungs. This past winter it was still low. I said maybe it’s the diuretic. They wrote a new prescription for the ide & sent me on my way. I went to the pharmacy & filled the prescription on my way home. An hour later the phone rang & it was the dr’s office. She said they discussed it & are changing the ide to Lisinopril. Uhg!!! Do all dr’s treat patients like they don’t have a brain or know their own body? I think they give you prescriptions rather than advise on your diet so that you have to keep going back to them...

I agree with that statement.  When my Mom was battling terminal cancer, they didn't seem to care what she ate as long as she ate.  I was her full time caretaker, and was able to figure out ways to keep her having an appetite, and they never cared to help (after many requests) to make sure she was eating the best for her condition.  I had to do my own research....I even tried contacting dietitians and nutritionists who never seemed to care.  Ever since she passed I've been trying to figure out how to go back to school so I can work with people to actually help them.

Sorry it took so long to respond to your post-your message went into my spam

folder and I just found it! PLEASE don't give up hope...I nearly did, and had

I listened to my idiot docs, I would have! I would NEVER suggest that anyone

ignore their docs, but I do highly recommend becoming VERY much involved in

healing nutritionally. Having been where you are myself (I am 5'8 and was down

to 107 pounds, crippled, very ill), I can tell you that chances are VERY good

that you can turn things around very quickly by removing toxic processed food

from your body, and blasting your body with organic nutrition blended in the VM.

If you can see your way clear to order a Vitamix, PLEASE do it quickly and get

yourself feeling better! In case you aren't aware, you can order through our

Lea Ann-she can get you a great deal, and free shipping, and can arrange a

payment plan for you if funds are an issue. Most of all, PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP!!

I will be happy to make suggestions for things for you to try, but will stop

short of offering you medical advice...but am HAPPY to give you nutritional

advice!! Hang in there, my dear!

recommended for quite some time. This is why i am finally going to order a

That is so typical! Sad fact is, the docs would be out of a job if they healed everyone. It amazes me that they are quick to mask a symptom, rather than try to find out what is causing the issue in the first place! In my own case, I quit worrying about how to treat symptoms, and focusing on what was the CAUSE of those symptoms-very quickly I was able to identify and overcome the triggers! I saw a heartburn medicine commercial earlier today it said something to the effect of "go ahead and eat that hot dog, go ahead and have that beer, Zantak can tackle the toughest heartburn, so eat without fear". HUH??????? How about skip the hot dog and beer and avoid the heartburn in the first place? One of my biggest tools in my recovery was to quit masking what my body was trying its very best to tell me. The body has a

remarkable capacity to heal...if you let it! Interesting, . I also have hemochromatosis, so I have to severely limit iron-I haven't run across anyone else in my groups ever who has heard of it, lol! ;Many thanks for sharing your health and nutritional knowledge. I have a question ... I am looking to detox and lose weight and have been juicing vegs in my Champion. A lot of cabbage together with cucumber, carrot, beet celery and some spirulina and flax oil in the mix. My plan is to detox with juices and then progress to the VM to smoothies. I am trying to eat raw - mainly salads. Also take my daily psyllium dose but big intestinal issue since starting this health routine. What do you Think?

I really want to stress here the importance of diuretic therapy , if you are on a blood pressure medicine that is Potassium Sparing and they put you on a diuretic to flush built up potassium from your body it is very important that you include vitamin B1 (thiamine) in your diet, if you don't you will start to notice signs associated with diabietes dry scaly skin, peripheral neuropathy in the feet, then they get you going to the Dr. for all sorts of test associated with diabetes, just to find out that you don't have it months and many $$$$ later, why because diuretic therapy for potassium can cause a disease call wet or dry beri beri, (Thiamin Defficency) take B1 and everything starts going away. This happened to me once, the second time they put me on Lassix, the Dr. kept looking at my skin in a confused way, he said no dry skin, ???? No, not since I stared taking B! it all cleared up, he just got a disgusted look on his face and said OK you are doing fine, see just a ploy to get repeat biz.

, thank u so much. I am actually ordering my VM through Lea Ann this

coming Tuesday as that is when my hubbys ck come in. Im super excited to try

this as all my GP friends swear its saved their lives. I would LOVE some good

advice on things to try so I love my new VM out the door. A run down on my

symptoms the dr's are masking with meds that turn me into a zombie are nausea/

vomiting and constipation. I mostly vomit when I would try a new solid hoping to

add it to my diet. In 3 months all i've eaten is appleaause, an occasional

banana, ck broth and tom soup. I drink gatorade, gingerale and coconut water to

maintain hydration. Still with that have to have IV fluids weekly. I am so

looking forward to being able to live well with my disease so any good ideas are

most welcomed. I have two children who are watching mommy wither away and a

daughter who is 13 and at the age where she's a little over weight. I don't want

her to see mommy not eating and think that's ok. So I guess I am

begging...Please help. Thank you again, you will never know how much this means

to my family and myself.

Oh and before my dx I had never drank sugar in my life. So obviously a big

concern is me developing diabetes from this. I have seen that a lot of people

make lots of stuff with natural sweetners. Im so excited about this, I really

think this is going to save my life. :) For the first time in months I have

hope.

Page, I would suggest NOT trying to " detox " . Detox is virtually impossible as

long as you are still taking toxins in, and since that is unavoidable, stressing

the system out with trying to eliminate too much is very taxing, in my opinion.

I think you are better off to boost NUTRITION, rather than try to " cleanse " or

" detox " . Proper elimination is very important, but I personally would be more

inclined to bulk up with organic flax and chia seeds added to smoothies or soups

rather than to take psyllium powder. When you start blending fruits and veggies

in the VM, you should be getting enough fiber without adding something so harsh

to your system. I cannot stress enough the importance of using ONLY ORGANIC

fruits and veggies. If not organic, produce is loaded with pesticides,

herbicides, waxes, sprays, and other toxins that get even more concentrated when

juicing or blending. The body can probably handle the residue on an apple or

two, but when you start juicing up a load of stuff, you concentrate the

pesticides as much as you do the nutrients. You can NOT wash off pesticides

from non organics-much of them are taken up into it during growing. Also, much

of the non organic produce has been genetically modified, so it is no longer in

its natural form. Good luck with your changes! Sounds like you are on the

right track, with a couple of tweaks!
