Guest guest
I haven't posted in ages but I need some advice. Amelia (10 with DS) has been hospitalized for the last two weeks with pneumonia. She was on a ventilator for 14 days and has been on a by pap for the last three days. The cause of pneumonia was never established but the doctors at Fairfax Inova hospital think it might be viral. She is doing better but I want to know if anyone else in this group has been in this situation. Amelia has always enjoyed superior good health. I am disconcerted by how very ill she got this time. The way it happened was a little over two weeks ago we were at a waterpark and Amelia was charging up and down the slides, eating hamburgers, and coughing non stop. After a few hours of this I packed it in and put her in the car to head home-a two hour drive. One hour into the drive she was coughing very loud and had ragged breathing. I stopped at the nearest ER and within two hours she had been put on a ventilator. It was very hard for her to come off the vent. Took a week longer then doctors initially predicted. Now the by pap is taking longer then predicted. She is recovering but it is taking longer then it seems it should. So my question is how nervous do I need to be that this will happen again? Any advice is appreciated. Ann, mom to Amelia and Jake (9)
