Yes! Jury Duty!

She showed up at the designated time like all the rest of the people - sat in

the Jury Selection Room..... got bored... watched the video about what a Jury

means and does.... and actually sat in the Jury Box for the description of the

charges, meeting the defendant and the attorneys, getting the instructions on

how the selection procedure runs.... and then answered all the questions on the

15 page questionnaire - dropped it in the box, got our parking validated, and we

walked out in the rain to the car at the end of the day..... we find out Monday

if she is on the jury.

The courthouse could not have been a friendlier place for her - absolutely no

indication from anyone - be it employees, judges, attorneys, or the hundreds of

other potential jurors - that she was not a part of the process like everyone

else.

I am actually hoping that she doesn't get picked - due to the nature and length

of the trial - but hey, she is willing to serve!

Funny - when I mentioned to the staff at the Day program that she attends that

we would be doing the Jury Duty thing, they tried to tell me that I could

probably get her excused.... but I put it across as " Why? She is entitled to

see the workings of the court systems and be bored to tears along with everyone

else! " ...I think they are now planning to have some discussion groups on the

topic, so that others will be prepared to show up if summoned...
