Guest guest
Hi , It would be a lot easier to put the fish oils in you smoothie and drink it, well you could even buy it by the bottle instead of those horse capsule soft gels they think you can swallow. I have the same problem from time to time and once it happens it seems never ending once it starts. I take a 300 mg, CO Q 10 everyday, I mean I get so tired of trying to get it down too. I see so many good recipes for smoothies on this site and they have Spinach and everything good for you in them, and don't you know I have Hemochromatosis (too much Iron) thanks to an ancestor (thanks bunches) every food I love is rich in iron. I get so hungry for iron rich foods. in VAOn Wed, Sep 21, 2011 at 2:22 AM, Amico <l_amico@...> wrote: I’m going to have to talk to my doctor or the pharmacist about pulverizing some of my supplements into the recipes in the vitamix. Guest guest
You can easily replace most supplements, and flax seed is far better (and tastier) than fish oil, which mostly comes from farmed fish, so is not really healthy at all. Flax has the same beneficial omegas.Sent from my iPadOn Sep 21, 2011, at 2:22 AM, " Amico" <l_amico@...> wrote: I’m going to have to talk to my doctor or the pharmacist about pulverizing some of my supplements into the recipes in the vitamix. Guest guest
You don't have a magic natural food or product that can help get rid of Iron in the body do you? I know for the most part they say that you cannot get rid of Iron hence the problem , that and having 1 quart of blood taken off every 4 weeks. (yes you are reading that right a pint every 2 weeks) On Wed, Sep 21, 2011 at 2:41 AM, Berry <berrywell@...> wrote: You can easily replace most supplements, and flax seed is far better (and tastier) than fish oil, which mostly comes from farmed fish, so is not really healthy at all. Guest guest
Interesting, . I also have hemochromatosis, so I have to severely limit iron-I haven't run across anyone else in my groups ever who has heard of it, lol! I also have food allergies, and have to limit foods rich in salicylates, amines, calcium and potassium. Being a vegetarian, none of those are easy to avoid, lol! > > > ** > > > > > > I'm going to have to talk to my doctor or the pharmacist about > > pulverizing some of my supplements into the recipes in the vitamix. I actually look forward to the phlebotomy for HC, as I feel better for a couple of weeks! Guest guest
Wow small world , I have found that it depends on where you are most people around here refer to it as Polysythemia, yet you find very little on the net for Polysythemia, but you will find Hemochromatosis. See I have a kidney problem and the way they get around the potassium part is every other day I have to take a 40mg Lassix so that I can have some potassium! however I found out myself they did not tell me that when on Lassix you need to take B1 (thiamine) so I do about 500 mcg a day I thinkit is micrograms any way it is one or the other. , man small world, I have not found many people with Hemo, even though I know there are quite a few people don't talk much about it. I feel your pain , I love liver, I love beets, spinach any dark leafy greens etc. Boo Hoo!! On Wed, Sep 21, 2011 at 2:50 AM, <berrywell@...> wrote: Interesting, . Guest guest
I take the CoQ10 too. I found that Shoprite food store has their own brand of CoQ10 in 75 mg pills that are really small. I take 2 in the morning & 2 in the evening to get 300 mg. I have to take that because the Cholesterol meds were causing debilitating cramps in my feet & calfs without warning. That is much better since taking the CoQ10. All these supplements run into money & insurance doesn’t cover them & a lot of reimbursement accounts don’t allow it anymore either. Stincks. People like us aren’t taking these pills because we enjoy gagging & choking everyday. Those fish oil pills are half the size of my pinkie finger! They could turn you into an involuntary Bolemic! My husband had a friend at work that had too much iron too. Strange that you would crave iron. They used to say don’t worry if the child won’t eat a veggie. When his body craves what is in that veggie he will want to eat it. Go figure. Guest guest
Take heart, ...you will very likely find that you can do away with MOST if not all of your supplements with healthy additions to your smoothies! I went from 17 meds a day, plus various supplements down to two, including eliminating cholesterol meds, AND healing from the ailments that caused me to need the meds in the first place! Sounds like you are on a good path! Sent from my iPadOn Sep 21, 2011, at 3:12 AM, " Amico" <l_amico@...> wrote: I take the CoQ10 too. Guest guest
You know , I have often wondered about that craving iron rich foods, when you have too much iron (which really can kill you) all iron becomes trapped in your liver, they say that in turn you manufacture way more blood than your body needs, and you feel tired and lithargic all the time. I tell them every time I go for a blood draw, for some anemic person this would be like liquid gold, but they draw it and throw it away, because the blood is actually to thick they have to use a larger needle to get it out. I do feel much better after the draw. It is short lived. I have found online there are some I think Amino acids that are used in Chelation therapy that you can take that is suppose to help clear some iron from your body. They tell you right away there is nothing you did to cause Polysythemia or Hemochromatosis some nice ancestor was born with a bad gene or chromasone that causes your body to store so much Iron. On the Co Q 10 I will look into that, I started buying the 300mg gelcaps at Costco because they had them for 25.00 for 75 pills and this month they have them on sale for 7.00 off, limit of 5 bottles ( YEARS SUPPLY) On Wed, Sep 21, 2011 at 3:15 AM, Amico <l_amico@...> wrote: Wow, and to think of all the people that are anemic! Guest guest
I love COSTCO. I was choking on Calcium pills but found Reviva Liquid Calcium that is Blueberry flavored at COSTCO for about $12 a bottle. I mix the daily dose of 2 T into a glass of Ocean Spray Blueberry Pomegranate juice & don’t even know I’m taking it. It’s delicious but thick on it’s own. The juice makes it a joy. And, now that can go into the Vitamix as well. LOL I won’t have my vitamix for about 10 days. I just ordered it yesterday. I’m chomping at the bit. I am holding myself back from going to the produce department! Guest guest
I read that during WWII, I believe, there was a shortage of blood & in the islands they discovered that they could use coconut milk for transfusions. I think it must have been equivalent to plasma. Would seem that there would be some kind of way to separate your blood so that someone could benefit from it. What a shame for it to go to wastel AmicoCT zone6 From: Webster Sent: Wednesday, September 21, 2011 3:25 AM Subject: Re: Difficulty swallowing pills You know , I have often wondered about that craving iron rich foods, when you have too much iron (which really can kill you) all iron becomes trapped in your liver, they say that in turn you manufacture way more blood than your body needs, and you feel tired and lithargic all the time. Guest guest
I hope so . I won’t miss the doctor at all. I’ll have to fight to let them go. Even now I think they have me over medicated because my blood pressure is low at home but high in the office. I have to bring my monitor in with me next time to see if if agrees with them. Guest guest
I take Lessman's vitamins off HSN. actually I buy them off his web site, as they are cheaper. All are powders in capsuels, small size to make swallowing easier. now I'm tossing them in my smoothy and drinking my vitamins as I drink my smoothy!!! I save some to take through out the day. I take A LOT of his vitamins and really feel the difference. It's good food, the best food, concentrated food. buy good quality vitamins. if they are compressed into hard tablets, pass on them, that's the cheap way to make a table. always go for loose powder in a capsule that can be digested. Guest guest
One tip to make swallowing pills easier. If you find they get stuck in the back of the throat it's because your throat/mouth is dry. Drink a small sip of water BEFORE you take the pills. Then try taking them with the water. Also they make calcium in a powder which could be put in smoothies. What about fish oil in a liquid form? Carlson's is a good quality and it decent tasting. http://www.vitacost.com/Carlson-The-Very-Finest-Fish-Oil Tony On 9/21/2011 2:22 AM, Amico wrote:  I’m going to have to talk to my doctor or the pharmacist about pulverizing some of my supplements into the recipes in the vitamix. There is nothing worse than choking on huge pills like fish oil. I’ve gotten to the point that I will gag even when I floss my molars. I mean so bad to the point that I have vomited. This could solve that problem. And, better yet with these recipes I may no even need some of the supplements or medications.  Amico CT zone6
Guest guest
I have severe dry eye (from RA) and my eye docs at s Hopkins have me on fish oil they told me to get Twinlab Norwegian Cod Liver Oil. They said because they did not contain heavy metals. I get them at Drugstore.com and they are quite small and easy to swallow. I take three a day.TerrySent from my iPadOn Sep 21, 2011, at 2:41 AM, Berry <berrywell@...> wrote: You can easily replace most supplements, and flax seed is far better (and tastier) than fish oil, which mostly comes from farmed fish, so is not really healthy at all. Guest guest
That's a great tip. Thanks. I'm going to get the Reviva. I've never had Blueberry Pom juice either. I'll have to try that. And, now that can go into the Vitamix as well. LOL I won’t have my vitamix for about 10 days. I just ordered it yesterday. I’m chomping at the bit.
