I buy , who is 4'8 " ) jeans with elastic waist and just whack off the

legs to fit. She loves the frayed hems.

Have you tried Old Navy? I'm short (according to my husband I'm a shrimp) and I

get the " short " style. I get all of his pants there because they are 1.

affordable, 2. they wear like crazy (he's a typical rough and tough boy) and 3.

They actually have styles that fit him right (and no they are not the kind of

pants that people wear the waist around their knees).

Good Luck!

We have found some knit elastic wasit leggings in a denim fabric that

look somewhat similar to real jeans, but are comfortable.. think from

Pennys, but have seen them around other places as well. Not as cool as

the popular skinny jeans, but then again, doens't have a

skinny jeans figure!

I always have to cut and hem.....several inches off anything...jeans, sweat

pants, or dressy pants.

I even cut and hemmed the sleeves of a suit for graduation.....getting over my

fear of doing it after I got an estimate from an alterations lady.

Hope you can sew....or know someone who can. A few stores do alterations...or

have someone they refer you to.

I like granny's idea.....cut and let fray.

Hope you can find something that will work.

We purchased jeans that fit Nick in the waist and then we found a

seamstress who matches the stitching, thread color, etc on the hem of

the pants. I can't tell that they have been altered she does such a

nice job. My husband and I always joke that if we give Nick's pants to

Goodwill someone would buy them thinking they are the length that is

on the tag :)

Have her wear dresses? ; )

Unfortunately, same problem. The plus sizes for girls take care of some of

the difference in length between the waist and legs, but the legs are just

too much shorter for anything to work once you get up to 16s. At 4’7”

(measured generously), Jess has over ½ foot of extra and rolling them up

just didn’t suit, so I dug out the sewing machine and chopped. You can

usually just measure from the heel to where they need to be cut, mark, add

about 1 ½”, and use a ruler to trim them evenly so you don’t have to do the

pins in your mouth and antsy teen dancing around asking if you’re ever going

to finish. Then turn up and up once more and stitch down like the originals

usually are. The straighter the easier, and by the time we chop off what

needs to be, they’re all usually straight because the flares at the bottom

are what gets cut off.

Sometimes the petite ladies sizes will work too, but they are usually just

not right somehow in the fit. Stretch seems to work better, especially a

stretchy waist (not available in the “lowride” styles most of which aren’t

very appropriate anyway).

Cropped are still around, especially for summer, but they tend on Jess to be

about an inch or so too short for jeans and a lot to long for cropped. She

is lobbying for alterations on one pair so they are the right length for

cropped!

Good luck and let me know if you find an alternative—I don’t mind sewing,

but on the other hand, if I can avoid…

That's funny about goodwill, I've thought the same thing about Caty's

clothes I've donated. I'm lucky she is petite, and nicely preportioned but

even she has a thicker waist I guess. I didn't really realize until I was

tryng to buy a prom dress on line and I measured her and according to the

chart her bust was a 4, her waist was a 10, and her hips were a 2. I get a

kick out of her having to turn in her color guard uniforms. Don't know where

they will find a 4ft.10 flag, but good luck!

This has got me thinking... how tall you your teen/adult girls?

is almost 4'11 " and it sounds like from the bone age Xray that

she just had that she's 95% finished growing.... does that sound about

right? Well, I guess I'm glad I took that home ec class way back when

and can at least do a simple hem :-) LOL about the color guard uniform!

, mom to (14, 5'11 " with more to grow, also a problem to buy

jeans!), (12 DS), and Sammy (10, sized completely average and

everything fits.... lucky!)

is 25 years old..... 4' 11 3/4 " - just a quarter inch shy of being 5 feet

tall... weighs about 125......and she can usually find boys jeans with elastic

waists that fit her.... she has a really small waist compared to the rest of

her, so without the elastic she is belting her poor jeans to death.....

Actually, though - her pants of choice are sweats - or knit women's petite pants

Here's a short movie of her in the local play at the Civic Theatre this last

For those that the link didn't work - I have now embedded the video onto 's

page at Waycool... you would need to scroll down below the video of her

presentation this last summer at the NDSC in Sacramento - see if you can make

the video work from there!

....and let me know if it does not work from there!

Believe it or not, up until I was around 48-49, I could stand up that way...or

even stand from sitting tailor style without my hands. These last 7 years have
